Static Electricity Shocks

I have had my R1 running for 2 days now. As it sits idle with the internal fan running it builds up a lot of static electricity. When I touch the lid to open it I get a terrible shock of static electricity. Is this normal? It seems to me that frame should be grounded so that this does not happen. Can I fix this somehow?

You could check that with a multimeter, for example by using the continuity or resistance (ohms) setting. Place one probe on the printer’s chassis and the other on the ground connection of a wall outlet. Do not touch the live or neutral pins.

If you’re not comfortable working around electrical installations, you could use the radiator instead, as it’s often connected to ground as well - or even a water faucet, if that’s easier to access.

One possibility is that the ground wire inside your R1 wasn’t connected properly during assembly. However, there are also several other potential causes. Static buildup can be influenced by things such as the type of flooring in the room, humidity levels, or even the shoes you’re wearing.

I’m not saying this is definitely the cause, but checking the grounding would be a reasonable first step in troubleshooting the issue.

Otherwise, it could also be that the electrician simply forgot to install a ground for this outlet.
