MakerWorld …
Don’t know about you but I got stung in the past multiple times when it comes to offering my models on sites claiming to provide some sort of license system.
My first theft happened for a basic Dremel attachment working as a dust sucker with extra LED lights.
I noticed this only once I found the printed model offered as kit on Fleabuy.
Needless to say neither Fleabuy nor the site hosting my files had any interest in stepping to help.
From there and despite changing sites things got worse.
Be it paid for models or free ones, if they were of any general use or got plenty of hits they got stolen.
I don’t actually mind if someone tries to make money but I do mind if that happens using my work while claiming it is the work of the thief…
So I decided to spice things up a bit with some polls
Where any of your models stolen and offered elsewhere without giving the proper credits?
- Yes
- No
If you had your work stolen, did you get any help from either website?
- Yes
- No
- No and it caused me financial losses
Do you think hosting sites should actively work on preventing theft and to take down the offending models?
- Yes
- No - if you vote NO please post a reply why you think only the owner of the files should be responsible
Please feel free to share your positive and negative experiences in terms of your work being stolen by other people, especially if it is models you listed for a price and not for free.
Thank you for participating !
