Sometimes I’ll start a calibration print that’s more than one layer, but I’ll notice that something is clearly off.
I know about the “Pause at Layer X” feature, but that’s only during preview.
My suggestion: a “stop at Z” button next to the Pause and Stop buttons that allows you to enter the current (stop after this layer finishes printing) or a future layer. This way, if I start a 100 layer print job, and I realize there’s an issue I want to troubleshoot at layer 1, I can say “Stop at Z” while it’s printing, and as soon as layer X is printed, it will stop.
I realize I can press stop just as layer X is just finishing, but there’s usually layer X commands that won’t finish or layer X+1 commands that will print. You have to get the timing just right. With a “Stop at Z” command, folks could say “Stop at Z: 1” and it would just complete the first layer and then stop when it’s done. Very helpful, and doesn’t require us to monitor while that first layer finishes printing.
But you already have to be monitoring that layer, or you would not know there was a problem requiring the use of the Stop@Z button.
If I see a problem, I stop the print NOW, because the print has already failed and there is nothing I can do to change the gcode of a print in progress.
This would absolutely be a helpful feature. I’m doing a stacked print that will take multiple days to finish. I decide I want to stop after a complete object and print something else. Currently, I have to wait for the print to get to the right layer and stop precisely to not waste filament. Ideally, I would be able to schedule the print to pause or stop at a certain layer after I’ve already sent it to print.
So something like “stop print after object completes” that could be specified ahead of time (but after a print has started)?
One way to do that now would be to pause the print, skip all the objects besides the one(s) you want to finish, then resume the print. It will stop automatically once the last object still being printed is finished. And won’t waste any more filament on object(s) that won’t be finished anyway.
This is a good workaround, but it doesn’t work for stacked prints since Bambu treats them all as one object. The skip functionality doesn’t work at all for stacked prints.
