I just started getting a weird clicking noise when the nozzle changes from left to right (nozzle blocker goes to left and left nozzle is raised up). I manually moved the nozzle blocker and it doesn’t seem to happen then, only when it is actually printing. It’s pretty quick, so video is short.
Anyone have any ideas? Any help is appreciated.
Sorry I uploaded the wrong video file and now having issues fixing it…bear with me. But it’s grinding at the point when the nozzle blocker switches to the left. I’m working on the video now.

I also get a clicking but doesn’t sound quite as bad. I’m really not sure what it is either, just sharing my support
Thanks! I wouldn’t mind as much if it didn’t just start happening all of a sudden. Been printing for over a month on this and haven’t heard this yet. Doesn’t seem to be affecting it but I can’t imagine it’s normal operation.
That sounds like the extruder gear grinding on the filament to me. Not saying that’s what it is, that’s just what it sounds like to me.
You are on to something here I think. I just started printing a baby panda to see if it does the same thing…and it does NOT. I think it might have been the support material (Bambu support for PLA/PETG) that was in the right nozzle of when I was having the issue.
Not sure why that would be…maybe the support filament is out of tolerance and it causing grinding?
Argh it started doing it again. I’m going to try replacing the cutter blade and see if that’s it…maybe the filament is scraping against it.
I heard this noise once on a particular print job that I was running and wanted to investigate it further afterwards However, so far I have not encountered this anymore after that.
Unfortunately I don’t remember what materials I was printing at that moment.

It’s lifting the nozzle before it releases the extruder gear. The filament is being forced through the gear set. I’ll have to pay attention on my next multicolor print to see if thats normal behavior. If that is normal behaviour, maybe it isnt retracting the filament enough to make space for the nozzle lift. Are you also getting ooze when this happens? or is the nozzle already cool?

No ooze at all…clean. I did try replacing the cutter to see if it had something to do with that, but it stayed the same.
It doesn’t appear to have any ill bearing on the prints…everything is coming out perfectly.

Ok, it is normal to lift the head before releasing the gears, but there should be a pretty long and very fast retract first. Right before the lift. Giving it the space needed to not jam the filament through the gears, but rather allow space for the filament to slide back into the nozzle during the lift.
I also rewatched with headphones and the sound does start before the lift. Can you take the front cover off and take another video? So we can see what the extruder is doing when the sound starts. The sounds extends way past the wiper movement, so Im guessing its not the wiper either.
You could print one of the indicators that you can push on the extruder spindle. Allows for better visualization of extruder movement.

Okay so I took both Gerrit and StreetSport’s advice (thank you both!). I printed off the rotation indicator, took off the front cover, popped the indicator on (easy), set up a 2 color print (the standard panda) and got my phone ready to take video…and…nothing. I mean it’s as quiet as it was on day 1.
It’s exactly like when I take my car into the dealership because its making a noise, and then it somehow knows to stop doing it when I pull into the garage.
Maybe something jarred lose (or into place) when I took the cover off? I did notice a TINY bit of wear on the left side of the cover, so maybe something was scraping there and positioned differently when I put back on? Who knows…
If it happens again I’ll get a video and pop out here, but in the meantime thank you again for the help. I give you both credit for fixing it whatever it happened to be!!
