Ive been trying to get this amolen wood pla to print now without blobs for a little while now but cant seem to figure it out.
I have dried the filament for 7 hours at 50° degrees
Per bambu lab ticket I was told to try retraction, i used the retraction test in orca slicer and only has the problem on the bottom as it looks good top to bottom
I have ran a temp tower, manufacturer says temps of 190-220° so I lowered the temp down to 200° since I can visually see the filament oozing out at the default 220°
I have been using the generic pla profile as a starting point
I have ran a flow rate test but .98 as default looks good at the default speeds, I have tried running pass 2 with a flow of 1 and none of the squares look good at 50mms
Not sure what else to do since the temp tower looks better at default temps but my prints keep getting these blobs, not just on these prints pictured, everything ive tried to print with this pla. Doesnt happen with any other filaments I use. First roll of wood pla.
Oozing is a characteristic of most wood filaments. In fact, if I had a wood filament that didn’t ooze, I’d suspect that it had a very low wood content.
On the bright side, it should be very easy to clean up those blobs with a sharp knife/blade.
I doubt your serious. I’ve always had great luck with a plain razor blade (or x-acto knife) for cleaning up wood embedded PLA.
Sometimes, I don’t even bother with the blade and just move directly to using 60 grit sandpaper to scratch up the print and prepare it for staining. That process often cleans up any blobs.
I believe that the wood content allows more moisture to be absorbed and therefore proper drying is very important. This is how I test my filaments, if they creep out of the nozzle under temp then they have too much moisture, it’s a great and simple test. Back in the dryer it goes.
You mentioned drying at 50C but that seems at least 5C too low. If you can get to 55C I would dry it for another few hours at least and then give it another try.
Im not familiar with wood filament, i just dont like how it looks when you peel it off. The defect leaves a white residue once peeled off. I put it back in the dryer last night so ill see how it goes.
After drying for an additional 8 hours at 60° the problem is still happening. Tons of blobs, filament missing in areas. Just going to use brown pla I suppose since im not getting anywhere. Ive ran every calibration test and ends up looking the same.
