Suggestion: Pullback Car and RC Car Kits

Hi @Makers_Supply,

We’ve been thinking about how awesome it would be if Bambu Lab’s Maker’s Supply store added some parts creators to make their own cars. I think it would be a big hit with everyone. Inspired by the wind-up walking mechanisms, I’d love to see the addition of two new kits:

Pullback Car Chassis/Parts An easy-to-use pullback car chassis or modular parts that can be assembled into a pullback car would be a fun addition. The more durable, the better for fun and creativity!

RC Car Chassis & Controller PartsAn RC car kit, complete with a chassis and basic controller components, would open up even more creative opportunities. Again, these should be mid-sized, providing a balance between price and being robust to get a decent amount of play out of them. Should provide design flexibility for both advanced and beginner creators. The controller shell itself could also be a printable design, adding another element for customization.

Just like the remixable mouse kit that has sparked so much creativity, a pullback or RC car setup would encourage the community to build fun and crazy vehicles. Including the STEP files for the base layout would make it easy for designers to quickly integrate their ideas.

I could see this being a fun contest just like the Tanks and Model Car ones. Cheers,

Creators - we’re not experts at RC cars. What would be a good example to provide to Maker’s Supply that would be a good balance of ease of use and reliability for beginners?

I absolutely need this to fulfill my brand new lifelong dream of designing RC cars.

Quick! Get him before he designs a get-away car!

Suggested this to them back in June or something via the Airtable form. Never got a response :frowning:
I definitely agree that these should be made!

Curious if you submitted any particular car chassis or just the idea? There are so many to select from so it would be good to see what other designers think would be a good base to use that works well with 3D printing in their the pull-back or RC style.

I find this a great idea but also a bad one. RC car components are not the cheapest. You need servos, controllers, a configurable remote and much more. When you sum it up it can go up to the hundreds, for a starter kit.

I am sure that there would be people that would spend all that and i bet they would get downloads as hell, no doubt. But that would also leave the other kind of people that don’t have or they won’t spend that kind of money.

Yeah, i have mixed feelings overall

I hear you. There is a range of prices for everything though and some folks might want to just have the pull back cars and others might be willing to spend a little more for RC parts.

The parts for pull-back cars look pretty inexpensive and Maker’s Supply could price them close to the Walking Mechanisms.

For the RC car, I’m not thinking it would be something incredibly rugged for outdoor play or even incredibly fast. Just something to play around with in the house on the lower end of the budget, if that makes sense.

Sounds like RC kits are already in the pipeline.

Have one in line to print. Ordered the parts and costs are around 50€ for a pair of them. Controllable by phone, playstation, xbox, switch or any bt controllers and even keyboard.
Check the video. That guy has lots of RC 3D printed toys.

I’ve been following him for a while now. Cool, but too much work lol

I would like to see if the maker kit can be any cheaper

It can be if you don’t want him to be compensated for the hours of time he spent designing and programming.

Hello,

What a great idea!

I apologize if this is too technical to understand, but I’m mainly addressing @Makers_Supply. I come from the world of model making, where I’ve worked with HO-scale trains, cars, boats, submarines, and RC drones.

One thing I’ve noticed is that I’ve accumulated a whole collection of remote controllers, and over time, I always end up replacing them. I believe this could make an excellent project to complement a 3D-printed toy.

Imagine a Makerworld kit containing the transmitter, its screen, battery, control sticks… and it’s up to you to design your dream remote. The same goes for the receiver: only the circuit is provided, and you create its enclosure yourself.

Additionally, we could offer parts (motor, circuit, gears, and potentiometer) to design and build our own servomotor.

This would give us a complete range of components needed to create our own RC toys.

I’ll leave you to explore the endless possibilities!

The kits are already designed so they most likely won’t change them. I have already suggested all of this previously in other channels.

I don’t see any in the store. Does Bambu Lab sell these RC kits yet or am I blind.
