Two years ago Bambu Studio introduced filament profiles for SUNLU filaments. This shows that they are open to 3rd party filaments used officially with their printers.
Unfortunately these print profiles are available only for A1 mini, A1 and A2L printers.
For other printers there are only Bambu and Generic profiles.
This is a request to update all printers with SUNLU filament profiles especially P2S and X2D printers that become a second most popular option right after A1.
While filament profiles for A series printers cover only basic materials PLA/PETG of course for P and X series it should cover more advanced materials such as ABS, ASA and PA variants.
In case it helps, SUNLU publishes some profiles here (in the “Material Labs” section on their site, which wasn’t obvious to me at first).
The original SUNLU profiles included with Studio were contributed at one point by a 3rd party developer. Since then BL has had to maintain them as needed when they add new features or re-organize things (but this doesn’t mean they’ve tested all those changes). I can see how that might be annoying, at best. Frankly I’d expect the original contributor to keep up with updates, or, as done in other projects with similar requirements, make sure a maintainer is assigned, for example someone from SUNLU in this case.
Another thing for BL to consider (or I would, anyway) is that by distributing profiles with their slicer, they’re kinda implicitly putting their stamp of approval on them. Or at least it could be seen that way. Now users might expect those profiles to work, or maybe even be “perfectly tuned.” But it’s unreasonable for BL to actually test and tune all the SUNLU filaments (heck they can barely keep up with their own). I think that creates a bit of a quandary. For an independent project like Orca this is less of an issue.
Having said all that… looks like someone already has taken some initiative on the matter! Though not quite as extensive in terms of coverage.
