SuperTack with ABS / ASA / etc? - Update: it works! use 80C to 90C

I’m curious, has anyone tried SuperTack with materials other than PLA and PETG?

I know that the plate coating is urethane, so TPU would fuse to the plate. But what about other materials? Has anyone tried ABS, ASA, Nylon, etc? The Glacier plate from BIQU… If I understand correctly it has a similar coating, and that one can be used with those other materials, just not with TPU. This makes me think you can probably use ASA on the SuperTack even if it’s not recommended.

FWIW, you can print PLA Silk on the SuperTack, and it is indeed a pain to remove, but it’s not that bad.

Interesting, why do you say that?

It’s made out of the exact same material as the BIQU CryoGrip plates, which is advertised as made out of polyurethane on Aliexpress

I’m guessing you have the supertack, but must not have the cryogrip. The surfaces aren’t similar at all. The supertack is sort of rubbery, the cryogrip is more of a chemical coating.

I have both plates, and they are the same material applied slightly differently to achieve a different texture.

I’m not sure what you mean by “chemical coating” as both plates are spring steel coated with polyurethane. Did you mean to say one is made with electroplating or patination or something like that?

I guess I just reach a different conclusion feeling them. The supertack is so thick and rubbery I’d think I could scrape it off with a knife, I don’t know the deposition process, maybe spray coating. The BIQU plates are more like they were dipped in something. Either way, they feel and behave very differently and I’d be surprised if they were the same substance.

I believe the BIQU plates are sprayed resulting in the textured feeling, whereas the BBL plates are dipped resulting in a rubbery glove-like finish. They do feel different to the touch, but I believe that’s mostly due to how the coating was applied.

I got my second SuperTack in the mail today. I will test ASA on it today, for science! :slight_smile:

Update: I just printed a few things on the SuperTack using ASA.

The print had better bed adhesion than with regular plates. I think it is comparable as the Engineering Plate but without having to use glue. The plate was unharmed, and it was easy to remove brims off the plate (unlike PLA Silk). Having said that, one of my test prints failed due to poor bed adhesion, so… the SuperTack super powers are not as good, but they are OK.

Going forward, I will use the SuperTack plate for ASA/ABS (80°C).

Not having much luck with eSUN ASA at 80 or 90C. Was hoping this would help with warping. Oh, well. Still an amazing plate for PLA.
