Support for OpenTag in AMS

With the recent removal of New Zealand from being sold to direct by Bambu, we are now expected to pay massively inflated prices for any Bambu Filament (~$13 USD is now ~$27 USD per spool for refills!) due to the local distributors doing what they do locally (i.e. ripping us off).

With this change this renders one of the use cases of the AMS - the RFID tagging - a fairly expensive thing to make use of for the sake of convenience and filament usage tracking.

This is a process in the works over at RFID-Tag-Guide/OpenSourceRfid.md at main · Bambu-Research-Group/RFID-Tag-Guide · GitHub to provide a way for vendors of printer/filament to have tagging that works across the board.

It would be appreciated if Bambu could consider support for reading tags that are coded as per the Github document and putting some support behind it.

You should probably make this a feature request post

You’re right, I did look for a section for that but clearly missed it when I was looking (and here seemed the next best place).

  • Select the pencil up where your post title is.
  • Click inside the second category box
  • Select the appropriate “request” entry
  • Save the change.

Thank you both  should be in the correct place now.

+1 to this suggestion.
And I’ll simply mention that I like this so that I satisfy the 25 character limit…

+1 Given the support for RFID already

When I check the OpenTag website I personally have never heard of any of the supporting companies before.

I’d rather see Bambu supporting
OpenPrintTag.org - Open NFC Standard for 3D Printing | OpenPrintTag
which is at least supported by two major players (Prusa and Voron) and therefore has the potential to become a real market standard.

But on the other hand - there won’t be any harm if Bambu supports both standards.

I agreed completely. Also a growning number of filament manufactures are signing up

+1 on supporting OpenPrintTag . Proprietary tags are not really sustainable.

+1! This would greatly increase the value of the AMS!

I also vote for the feature!
AMS and AMS2 are great and it would be even better!

It should be mentioned that Prusa announced their own open standard this year:

OpenTag3D mentioned that both can be implemented simultaneously, which is good:

Bambu has good prices on filament, but shipping time and limited color selections force me to choose other options often. Endorsement for openprint.org tag would improve the user experience. I have an X1C and H2C with a 1 AMS, 3 AMS2, and 2 HTs.

It was mentioned. Five posts earlier.

Oops. Must have missed that…

I will happily support any open RFID tag standard which is widely supported by the majority of the printers and filament manufacturers.

+1! This would greatly increase the value of the AMS. I support open RFID tag standard which is supported by the majority of the printers and filament manufacturers. Right now I’m leaning switching my printer system all to prusa even if its more expensive. Long term this is better experience for a end user.

+1 for this request as well. It’d be great to add support for it, to allow for more flexibility in using the printer and the AMS.
