Support for PLA is printing an entire layer?

I have tried multiple times to print a file using support for PLA as the support interface, but every time it prints an entire layer out of the interface material instead of just the interface. This causes the entire model to break apart, as layers of it are support for pla. I am letting Bambu studio handle all the settings and not changing anything on my own. The model looks fine in bambu studio, and shows the support material only being used as an interface, but when it prints it uses it for entire layers. Anyone have any suggestions?

Have you watched it during the print to make sure it’s swapping materials? If it is - you probably need to purge a lot more to fully clear the nozzle.

This is one of the reasons I wanted a dual nozzle unit [H2D] - was so that I could use PLA as support for PETG or vice versa.

While you can theoretically do it with one nozzle - you have to purge so much to make it happen that it’s extremely wasteful [very extremely wasteful].

You will then also run into situations where it seems like no matter how much you purge - you’re still having adhesion issues between layers after that.

When you purge support material with normal material - more often than not the support material will become enveloped by the normal material in the extrusion for quite some time - enough to ruin the rest of your layer.

During Studio updates, the flushing multiplier is occassionally set to “0”. That will create this behavior.
