Support Interface / Support G Uneven Interface Layers

Hello!
I am working to dial in the support interface quality of the Support G material for use with PATH-CF material. I have had excellent results printing the PATH-CF but have had a few issues with the Support G material.

After reading some of the other posts I resolved my initial issues and very poor results with the following changes:

  • Solid interface with 2 or 3 layers
  • 1/2 layer height for top and bottom z distance
  • Lowered recommended nozzle temp range from original 260 C - 290 C to 260 C - 280 C
  • Lowered print nozzle temperature from 280 C to 270 C
  • Double 12h bakeout of the Support G reel on the bed at 80 C bed temp

The above changes have improved results considerably but I am still seeing some of the support material along the edges integrate into the model and result in poor surface finish. Upon inspecting the layers as it prints, it looks like the Support G layers have significant bumps on the edges where the nozzle changes direction. I am currently using the Rectilinear interface pattern. See the images below:




I have a few questions for the community.

  1. Does anyone know what this bump on the edge is a result of? Could it be over-extrusion or speed related?
  2. Is it possible to have the support interface layer print with walls as the model does? I have not seen this setting but I think it could help this situation.

Next, I will be trying the Rectilinear Interlaced interface pattern, since the concentric resulted in poor surface finish but this is more of a band-aide solution and does not solve the root issue.

Seems to make sense to me. That’s pretty significant bridge the support interface layer is bridging. Look at the gaps the interface is being printing into. Makes sense that they would droop, and the edges be very high. Maybe try multiple interface layers until the drooping is gone. Or possible change the pattern and base support spacing to make a more filled support.

Thanks for the input! I don’t think this is drooping since the layer is otherwise very flat across the bridge areas and only shows this issue on the locations where the nozzle switches direction. This issue continues even at two or three layers.
