Support material where it shouldn't be

After slicing I have support interface material hanging out in mid air.
Printing in PLA with PLA support.
Type: tree(auto)
Support on Build Plate Only.

Is this normal for Auto supports? Am I doing something incorrectly?

Thank you.

The “Support only touching build plate” check box “should” get rid of the floating support you see. It’s odd that it doesn’t. You could use the manual tree supports to paint on the areas of support you need. It’s a bit of a work around about should solve your problem.

The other option is to print it as you have it. The support you see at the tip will print in the air and not be attached to anything.

I switched to manual support and specified the contact surfaces.
I guess the floating supports are a bug in the slicer when set to auto.

Yes a bug for sure. Tree support is a relatively new feature and there are still some outlying situations it isn’t perfect.

Also there is a place in BB studio similar to paint where you can select areas where you do not want support.

I know this is marked as “solved” by checking “Support only touching build plate” but I actually only see this behavior when using that option.
Has anyone found other settings that help eliminate this? My model is too detailed / complex to manually block or add supports.
