Supports Help

I need some help with a support issue. I’ve got a model that has 1.5mm wide gaps that have to be supported. I’ve tried every orientation of the model to print them without support and it always fails.
The issue I’m running into is that trying to remove the supports (and I’ve tried tree and normal with snug, default, thin, organic etc) from the 1.5mm gap is a MAJOR pain. I end up gouging the print, or when I’ve tried using a hair dryer, I end up bowing the material.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Pictures and filament type would be very helpful.

Sort of hard to see in the pics, but the 1.5mm “slot” is the topmost slot in the images.
Printing in PLA. I can’t really do the PETG support since it would have to change filament every level throughout the print, and the print is already 18 hours.

When I try to stand it on the face that’s to the right in the pics and remove the supports from that slot, the overhang breaks near the top.

These are being printed in PLA

Oh that looks like a split job, I’d be making that top part a separate item and print it flat on the plate. Attaching it afterwards. If that is an option.

The problem with that is there would then be a visible seam in the final product. Really trying to avoid that as these are displays.

I’ve printed a similar project before and in my case I was able to print the part on the front (45 degree) face shown in green on your part. You will have to chamfer the overhangs that the arrows point at but then this should print without support.

I guess I’m not seeing any “slot”.

In the orientation pictured, all the supports should be on the back side where the marred surfaces won’t be visible, if I understand what you intend with “display”.

If you created this in a CAD program, post a screen grab of a wire-frame of the entire thing, and a close up of the area you’re having problems with.

You don’t say what printer, or if you have a AMS. But a dedicated support filament is the solution to problems that can’t be solved any other way.

Thanks I’ll give that a try!
