If you’re small time I don’t exist, lol.
We even placed 15 of our models private except the ones that are in the contest (one much bigger designer have set everything private), because we printed some of our stuff just because of that, which makes us pretty mad. If nothing changes they will go private too BCS we want to know precise data
But I was looking for these designers.
Admittedly I haven’t gone through that entire list and the only one on that list I know off hand is agepbiz. Looking at their MakerWorld, Printables, Thangs and Thingiverse pages, agepbiz’s latest designs are on all sites.
When it comes to me, I’ve actually gone the other way as my last two designs can only be found on MakerWorld due to needing Maker Supply parts.
It doesn’t always hinge on points. I’ve slowed my design progress/uploading, but it’s because I recently reconnected with my estranged sister, and we’ve been catching up. Sometimes life happens and it can take people away from less important things.
I don’t know the reason, but I’m finding the front page suggestions much better than before the change, I personally was receiving around 500 points weekly since december, and now it has slowed down remarcably, I did take advantage of that fact and ordered an A1 for my nephews, I am still designing stuff that is useful and practical for me, maybe my output will increase a bit because surely my nephews will ask for stuff and it will be easier to share through Makerworld and they’ll be able to print directly instead of walking them through the whole design process.
My mission was to get a printer for them, and I succeeded, anything else than having a repository that allows me to send quality prints to my printer and theirs is just gravy.
I like the layout of the page a hundred times more than Thingiverse, and I do miss some filtering from printables, but I much prefer to not mess around STL files if I don’t want to.
I think MakerWorld did a pretty good job of attracting newer models to its site, but overall model count is still relatively low. It’s going to take sustained effort to become a dominant player. People will naturally start their search with the biggest source of print objects first. Starting from behind, BBL will have to throw money at it if their ambition is to become #1 or #2. Speaking only for myself, I’d rather that they threw that money at developing their next printer instead or else providing upgrades to existing printers, because I don’t think most people really care where their print models come from.
I do believe many BambuLab owners do prefer the model come from MakerWorld, but there might not be as many of us to really compete with Thingiverse,Printables or Cults, and, as you say, maybe as their market share of printers grows, so will the market share of the repository.
In some extent some people will go on other platforms. But a lot of bbl users will stay on MW. At least those who use the handy app. There is nothing similar on other repo. And if you are a new user who never used a slicer in your life or/and don’t have the eye to stop the shitty stl files, you won’t have a good time on other repo ^^`
I usually search up on Makerworld first. The selection isn’t as nearly wide ranging, but it’s been improving. I’m trying to help with that too, haha.
It contrasts with my own experience/prejudice though, because I don’t personally trust the print profiles that are supposedly that advantage to using the site. I’d rather download .stl (or preferably .step) files and then slice it myself using a filament that I’ve dialed in, because over time I’ve developed trust in that method. Judging from all the posts on this forum about people having trouble with their print profiles, I just wouldn’t feel comfortable trusting a print profile from some random person, because some people seem happy even with pretty awful print results. But maybe that’s just me.
Of course, if it were somehow proven that it would “just work”, then that would be different. Maybe there could be a certification process with a proven “just works” label to distinguish proven printable objects.
It’s a worthy goal. I’ll grant you that. The devil is in the details. For it to matter, though, BBL needs to stay on the leading edge of the most desirable printers, which is why I’d rather the priority was put into that.
I’m like you, I’m generally open the 3mf (on MW only) inside bambustudio and adapt it too my liking
And I only use the handy app to test my print profiles ^^
To that point, absolutely no one should be using someone else’s filament settings, and I don’t think they should even be included. Print profiles are one thing, but filament profiles are another. I try to always remember to change it to default bambu/generic filaments and not my custom ones before saving the project for upload.
@Mirkosa
Print profiles on MW only use default presets for filament and printer settings though. Am I wrong?
I don’t really print other people’s stuff enough to know tbh. But I do remember testing it and it appeared to use the filament settings if I remember correctly. Could be wrong though.
Just tested it again, I made a test filament profile, saved a project using it. Uploaded the project to a private model. Deleted the filament profile from my slicer and then imported the project from makerworld. The test filament profile was transferred.
So no, they don’t only use defaults. Other people probably just do the same thing as me.
To the people that say, “I don’t print other people stuff. I mostly print my own designs” That is totally okay. You weren’t generating anyone points before the change so there isn’t much change to you not generating boosts.
What exactly is the point of your comment? Seems very hostile for absolutely no reason. Because literally no one in this thread mentioned such things other than me. And I mentioned it in a completely unrelated context which had zero to do with boosts.
I think you might have misconstrued my comment. I’m not saying anything negative or that people shouldn’t use other’s print profiles. I’m speaking strictly about the filament profiles within.
These are very specific to types of filament and can vary even within the same brand from color to color. It’s best to just leave this part default IMO if someone hasn’t gone through their own filament calibrations.
Ok thanks. Interesting. So Bambustudio keep the custom filament profile. But I’m pretty sure the Handy App only use default filament presets (unless they changed something lately).
I like your modeling technique and style don’t get me wrong, but this post honestly reflects from the designers that weren’t here from the start but more so jumped on later.
You have over 20,000 downloads… Of course someone of your same maker grade will post these comments. BUT if it all stopped tomorrow and you weren’t rewarded anymore anywhere near where you are now then I know you’d have a different mindset.
MW has set itself up now. The designers that have been here and continued and simply strive to create day in day out for MakerWorld are established and will continue to be recognized by Bambu Labs.
Will we see newcomers grow to surpass that designer base?, probably not imo. This is what it is now and it’s up to designers such as yourself to keep people interested with new stuff 365 days a year or until you move on to greener pastures. Anyone will some basic business economics knowledge should’ve known it wasn’t going to be what it was forever and it still wont. It’ll change even more in the next year whether its for good or worse.
For me, I like it still as a place to share something that solves our issues (my teammates) and it happens to be well laid out and simplified when uploading. Otherwise find the same content everyday on this platform lol, it’s all the same but when I don’t want to model something myself and I search for it well it’s no where to be found but printables…
Keep it up guys! Hopefully every star player gets big rewards in the new creator program and the maker supplies sell out for the big money reward points
I agree. I like the personalized recommendations, help me find lots of stuff to print that i didnt even think i was interested
