The print is skewed and not parallel to the edge of the tray!

Hello Bambu Lab Team,

For some time now, the print head has been making a noise during the initialisation phase; it makes several unusual movements from the rear towards the front right corner.

The print then starts with a misalignment (the part ends up printed with a rotation of a few degrees). There is a difference of about 6mm between the edge of the build plate and the wipe line, between the left and right sides.

Furthermore, if I want to print in two colours, there is an XY misalignment of about 1mm.

Printer: P1S from November 2024. Firmware: 01.09.01.00. Only 870h of print.

Software: Bambu Studio (up to date)

Maintenance carried out:

- Automatic belt tensioning procedure

  • Removal of all modifications -
    Manual test of the print head movement in all four corners: no issues.

I would start with a factory reset + then menu recalibrate + re-check the print. If it’s still skewing, it might be informative to let it run the whole first layer test’s square to see if it is making a rotated square, a parallelogram, or if its some other odd skew

Also change the SD Card.
Test with integrate flow calibration in Bambu Studio
The problem is still there! :confounded_face:

that build plate looks like it hanging off quite a lot on the left side. have you checked that?

Can you check the head itself is level in each direction?

Throw on a spirit level if you have one.

It could be the nozzle is either bent or incorrectly seated.

And level of plate is ok.

Could this be caused by the engine motor control unit?

YES my P1S is well-oiled😉
But the problem is still there!

I see you have an extra led bar below the front frame.

  1. Isn’t the head hitting that led bar or its frame/support first rather than the frame?
  2. How is that led bar connected? On the AP board? externally? If on the AP board and even on the AP board USB connector, disconnect it and re-try

OK, I’ve removed everything, and the skew issue seems a little best…
I’d already tried testing the Biqu LED strip on the outside of the printer, but as long as it was still plugged in, the problem persisted. Since I unplugged it, things have improved.

But the motors are still behaving erratically. During the initial start-up, or as shown in the video when changing filaments, the head moves back and forth about ten times before it can continue, and it makes a lot of noise when turning corners and heading towards the waste bin!
Could this be an electronic fault with the engine control unit?

Actually, if I remove my initialisation G-code corrections, it really is a parallelogram!

Here are the photos of the finished print! I can’t close the box because of the parallelogram! Yes, I can adjust it using the M1005 command, but the problem is still there, and when the filament is changed, the head moves 5 or 6 times from the waste bin to the front right corner before to re print!
I should be able to sort out the parallelogram issue by adjusting the belt tension, but the biggest problem is the abnormal, repetitive movement of the head!

Look for added resistance when moving the belts.

The one with more is the one that needs to be replaced.

Thank you for your help. It’s true that there might be an issue with the belt tension settings, or perhaps the belts need replacing. But the printer has only been in use for 870 hours, and the belts look to be in perfect condition.

Do you have a procedure other than the one recommended by Bambu Lab for adjusting the tension and geometry (I’ve already seen a video using set squares)? THANK YOU

After several exchanges with the technical support team and various tests. One of these involved swapping the X and Y motors, which I refused to do, as it was very time-consuming and complicated, and as far as I was concerned, the motors were working fine. I asked them to send me an MC Board first.

So, REPLACEMENT OF THE MC BOARD.

Result: no more problems, no more ‘crazy’ print heads failing to home, no more layer misalignment when changing filament.
