The real cost converting points to cash for EU citizens? VAT/TAX

I’d like to know the actual costs involved in cashing out points in euros, and I could use some help from people who’ve already done this.

  • The system uses PayPal, so you have to pay extra for the currency conversion because it always uses the worst exchange rate. Including a processing fee.
  • Bambu says they also charge a tax: “calculate applicable VAT”

Of course, we all know that cashing out is less favourable than using the points, but unfortunately, I never see the calculation to euros in most cases. The problem is, I have to convert it to euros so I can use PayPal to make a purchase at a European online store, again.

  • To sum it up, can we already say that it probably isn’t worth it?

So, as I said, here’s the question: Has anyone done this before and can at least tell me how much VAT/TAX Bambu charges when converting the points to dollars for Europeans? Are there any hidden fees, like when the money is deposited from Bambu into your PayPal account? And I don’t mean the conversion fees, they’re obvious.

It would be enough for me if someone could just check and provide the how much in fees were charged when an European country was selected when converting points to dollar.

Maybe it’s different in the EU, but in the US points withdrawals use Airwallex, which deposits directly into the bank with a $3 US withdrawal fee. PayPal is used for commercial memberships and Stripe is used for crowdfunding. (not sure why they use different platforms for all three, but they do.)

Oh, thanks for pointing that out. That wasn’t obvious to me at all - quite the opposite. Well, that would fundamentally change my considerations if PayPal dropped out of the picture.

That said, the website is designed really strangely: When I click on “PayOut Information,” only PayPal appears. It’s only in the fine print that it says: for subscription fees

Thank you; that information is a big help to me. :+1:
