We all knew from day one that Bambu does things a bit different but with the Auth system we entered a whole new world.
But if we ignore the bogus claim about security then what’s left ?
Take one of my classic favourites - you want a proper stereo system in your car.
Back in the day you just bought one, took the old one out the worst you had to worry about was finding a suitable adapter plug.
Car manufacturers never like this idea and worked hard to make the task harder.
Today though it is made impossible thanks to the integration with touchscreens and abusing the ‘stereo’ to display what should be shown on instruments…
You bought it means you can do with it as you please ???
Far from it, just check your mobile phone and try to install a custom firmware on it or to remove unwanted pre-installed apps…
What started early on with the sole intent to make more money is today a perverted mirror of it
You buy something in a shop, pharmacy, tool store, groceries, does not matter…
What’s the question they keep asking you at the checkout???
“Are you a member?”
Most people then show their card or say no to hear the ‘benefits’ of being a member…
I come with a question of my own “Why are you overcharging your customers who are not members?”
The reactions are quite funny, especially if you insists on an explanation with waiting customers behind you…
Reality is they only want your details and through the ‘cheaper’ price try to bind you to their store - nothing more to it.
Have power tools with batteries?
You mainly get 18V systems, some offer 20V…
But unlike other battery devices you are forced to buy what the manufacturer dictates, no chance to drop your Milwaukee battery into a Rioby or Makita drill…
Made possible through industry power that ensures there won’t be any unified standard for batteries and chargers.
And the same game of registering your tools and purchases applies - it literally pays off to know as much about your customers as possible.
Farmers know about the dirty John Deere tactics to bleed them out.
Without a service tablet you can’t even work out what $5 sensor might be faulty and if you do anyway then replacing it won’t help as the fault has to be reset by an ‘authorised dealership’.
Meaning you have to get your tractor to the dealer for this simply because they won’t bother to send out a technician.
No matter where we look we see the same happening year after year and with every new year the manufacturers get more creative.
So called ;smart devices’ are the worst.
Some people love their smart speakers and to integrate what they can - works with Alexa!!
Never wondered why these devices won’t really use their built in ability to identify your voice to prevent abuse?
Never wondered why these things are ALWAYS listening?
You activating their response by calling them only makes them respond to you but they listen to every single word they can catch.
So if it is such a simple system that does not really offer anything with substance - why do they all come with highly secured bootloaders and operating systems and on top of that with nothing at all disclosing what these devices ARE doing all the time ?
It is done for the same reasons you will never find out what the baseband module in your mobile phone does and is capable of
