Thermal Blanket for X1 Carbon

One this is an awesome printer!

My home “office” is in my garage with a resin printer, Bantam CNC, laser cutter, etc and now have put my X1 Carbon w/ AMS in there. It’s still winter and the temp is cold in there. My other temperature sensitive devices are pretty good at self heating but the X1 Carbon is hovering around 28C. Right now I’m printing using the Bambu PLA-Matte and have several other PLA options but would like to do other things like PC.

What is a good temperature to shoot for for PLA and PC? I wanted to see if anyone had thoughts on how to insulate / maybe provide additional heating to this unit.

LOL, as soon as I finish getting the kid’s toys moved and some tables / workbench for me. I just moved in this place about 6 months ago and it’s been slow progress.

There are lots of methods. I chose a large 3d printer cover for abourt $44. It works well for PLA, and is large enough to have the AMS inside. I receive about a 10 C rise. I will be adding a temperature control exhaust system (for about $50) to allow higher temperature filament.

@gus Thanks for the info, do you have links to the blanket? I would also be interested in which solutions you are looking for in the temperature control exhaust system too.

The exhaust system is parts that I need to assemble and test so I will keep you in mind when it is done, it post on the forum too. There will be a quite fan, a thermostat with a remote probe, and a fan speed controller.

I found this item on Amazon and it’s seems like it would work perfect if you manually turn it on every print. I don’t think the temp will get up to 60C for dinner of the materials though. I also need to find a way to route power too.

The parts I selected for temperature control was: a thermostat with remote prob and digital display, a quiet fan that i attached a speed controller. I still need to connect these parts to a power supply.

I think depending on the filament type heat reduction will be needed. With PLA type of filament heat blanketing helps. If one wishes to use all the types of filaments then exhausting heat might be able to provide the environmental control of the printer environment. The assumption is that printing should be consistent from the plate to the last slice. For this reason I am using a blanket type enclosure and then added an exhaust system to keep the high temp filaments from cooking the print or the electronics.

Pretty much the same here. With my printer being in a garage it needs to retain heat. PLA is doing pretty good staying at around 30-33C with the bed is at 55C. So not sure if the current setup would hold a hire chamber temp even if the bed temp was higher for the other material (PC or PA).
