I’m excited for releasing the string racer! gonna embed me some youtube videos
We’re so close! Almost picture time, except someone who shall not be named, but was without a doubt was me, forgot to charge the batteries for the flashes (not the ones pictured), so I’m gonna play some video games instead.
Check it out though! Got the 5 colors! I also did these empty/blank inserts so it can be used as a regular case, and they come in 2 sizes now!
Thanks MilaPuzzles!
I finally got less lazy and got some photos together. Now I just need to get that string racer toy wrapped up too. Haha.
I like the way the photos turned out for this one.
I’m already on to some new stuff too! I use the cereal boxes for dry boxes, and I’ve been doing this slotted dock thing for them. They line up on the shelf and help keep it all tidy. It’s been turning out cooler than I expected, so I’ve been contemplating putting them up on Makerworld. I’ll post a shot here later on
I’m gonna keep posting my 3d printing shenanigans in here so when ya’ll need a break from serious talk you can come see what toys I’m cooking up next.
The problem? I’m using those plastic cereal box containers, which mostly work great. They’re bigger on the top though and the flaps on the top cover give some odd obstructions that prevent them from neatly fitting next to each other.
I wanted some sort of dock/tray/slot to put them into, where they’d fit neatly, and yeah. Completely unnecessary, but at least half of what we print is. I also made some plaques for the front to hold my swatches and with the added idea that it’d help frame the whole contraption up against the front edge of the shelf. I like things that line up, haha, so.
Just a little side quest I’ve been at maximum printer capacity this weekend.
I am having the same issue for stacking. Would love something like you are showing.
One small addition would be inter-locking tabs on the bases for when they are just sitting on the floor or stacked on top of each other.
Maybe have a ‘end’ module which only has tabs on one side for the end pieces.
I’ve been making this building set.
It’s based off of an old toy called Girders and Panels. Another one of those random fly by things from the past, haha. I had a set at one point though and it was one of those toys I enjoyed, naturally, as I like building stuff. I’ve had to change the approach up a bit for my 3d printable version.
I need a new coffee table, so I was thinking I could repurpose this as a coffee table too, haha. It’ll get big enough!
I have some base tiles with a sidewalk that I designed and am printing now. I’ve got some thoughts for the roof, but haven’t finalized those thoughts yet.
This is probably a little more niche than my usual stuff, but I enjoy it!
This is incredible. Crazy amount of potential for recreating famous buildings. Empire state, one world trade, etc.
I’ve had a few ideas rolling around in my head for different facade types and stuff. I just got one of the lamp kits too, and I’m thinking hmm, lighting for my building. Haha.
It’s still got a ways to go though. I’ve been thinking a lot about the roof and how to best handle that. The construction is pretty simple, but it proves challenging when wanting to make it into more than just a regular boxy building.
I moved my whole setup! And I’m showing it off because I know ya’ll can appreciate a nice clean setup of printers!
Yesterday I was reading the thread on the maker supply gift that some users received and I saw a picture you posted of one of the tiny motors and my first thought was, I wonder if he could use that for an elevator in his building.
Hahaha, I was actually thinking that very thing, or a stand alone elevator model. Could be cool. I use to make stuff like that with my erector set as a kid.
Shuffle on over and have a gander, wont you? I’ve been making a thing
Inspired by old cast iron printing presses. I guess it has those old cast iron boiler vibes too.
I’m not a very focused person, so I take a lot of side quest.
This has a very very cool steampunk vibe!
Haha, ahh. Not being a fan of steampunk, not sure how to feel about that! Although it does.
Hopefully it performs well. I’ve been working my way through test prints. I really dislike the cheap quality/looks of the card shufflers commonly found in retail, on amazon.
I’m gonna use the motor from makersupply, this one! The only thing that sucks is that it’s direct plug in. I want a switch for it. I’m trying to keep it to what’s on the maker supply store though. The smaller motors that have switches and stuff, might be too small.
Makersupply has a decent amount of usb items. Perhaps suggesting that they add a switched usb cable extension?
Ahh! That’s a great idea! I was thinking about soldering a switch into the cable or something, haha. This is probably easier for everyone.
I’m getting closer! This is my first project using gears, so that’s been really fun so far. The whole thing feels awesome! I can’t wait to print it in the final colors. I’m envisioning a certain look, and I’m hoping it comes together as nicely. I still need to finalize that whole drive mechanism though.
Really cool design I need to grab one of those usb motor. This opens so much possibilities to create really fun models
Oh man, I’m a sucker for anything vintage looking. I love it!!
I really like the Maker Supply, the whole concept of that. Just that direct accessibility for hardware like this. It makes it nice to design around because now you have a consistent supply that everyone can turn to.
I’ve got my whole contraption working, but haven’t plugged the motor into it yet. working on that today, feeling nervous, even though I know it works manually. I’ve got a switch coming like the one Jon suggested.
I’m printing up parts right now for a full second prototype, and hopeful release candidate!
I’m doing the motor mount in a way that will hopefully make it easier to adapt to other motors or situations. I’m planning a manual crank version and a motor version.
This thing is so cool. I’ve had junk card shufflers in the past, from like amazon, and always thought them to be a bit cheap and junky. I’m anxious about how it’ll run with a motor, but just manually turning it seems to give a nice smooth action.
Does it remind you of a time back when you were still alive? Haha, sorry, I can’t help myself.
