I really hope not, if I understand correctly this would effectively brick the printer?
Because from beginner to expert we are human and make mistakes.
The printer might have the wrong plate or none there of.
It might have a past design or a poop that fell onto the plate.
I would say it’s only a matter of time for those that send it to regret it.
Edit: also smart if you have family i.e. kids using it
I do understand this perspective, especially for kids. But for adults I feel like it may be slightly overkill, I personally always put my plate back on and just snap whatever it is off it the plate is still hot. Poop on the plate can be an issue but is easily fixable with a small print. Overall I do understand your concerns though.
Youtuber’s are starting to weigh in.

I case anyone missed Louis Rossman. He is a consumer rights advocate who for the better part of the last decade has waged war on companies who block right-to-repair. He has met with some success in helping pro-consumer rights legislation that makes it a basic consumer right to be able to “own” the thing you paid for.
Bambulab is now on his radar. Not good for BL.
However, I want to call his video into sharp focus at the 2:21 minute mark just in case this link doesn’t take you there exactly. I think his 10 second comment says it all but watch the whole video.

I also hate wasting money, so any print that must be redone that a simple checklist or procedure will reduce/eliminate I’m all for it.
I do get that some people don’t need it and get by ok.
I cannot loose my Spoolman integration, I shall remain offline as long as I need to, LAN for life!
Note that just “not updating” is a very loose option as BambuLab reserves the right to brick your printers if they ever feel like updating is “important” now.
from the Terms of Use
7.4 Your Bambu Lab product will automatically search for and download new update packages to provide you with timely update services. These updates are designed to resolve cyber security loopholes and prevent new threats, and it is important to accept and install security related system updates in a timely manner. Due to the importance of these updates, your product may block new print job before the updates is installed, and will immediately provide update notifications to help you understand the related information.
If you read through the comments in this forum, many people are blocking internet access. Now it’s possible if you use Bambu Studio app it could push the update to the printer so ideally switch to OrcaSlicer.
It is unclear at this stage I think, they have not clarified their plans when the printer reaches end-of-life/end-of-support
You never know. Get a group of smart guys with nothing to do all night, angry at BBL and having just enough knowledge and power to get it done… It could happen. It might take a few weeks, but I think it’ll happen. There’s already jailbroken X1C firmware, so it very well could happen.
At least for the A1, you can’t use exclude Object (something I really miss sometimes) and starting prints on the SD card remotely is not possible as Orca does not get access over LAN mode for whatever made up reason. My printer is in the basement, so coming from my Klipper workflow I pre-slice and prepare prints often enough. So occasionally I get in the situation that I can choose between going in the basement to select the print on the printer screen or “just” slice and send again. Makes no real sense to not be able to do that in LAN mode, exactly like the missing skip object.
I’ve watched Louis long before he was popular. Someone will need to tell him a lot of the things he was warning Bambu Labs not to do have already occured.
Afaik they use a Linux based firmware, opposed to the A1. I mean I hope so too, but nothing I get my hopes up too much and definitely don’t rely on.
If you’re already running in LAN-only mode, why would you use Bambu Studio in the first place? Use Orca Slicer, it’s better in every single way.
They’ve already started doing so on Reddit too. This does not portend well for them. If they start trying to lock down discussion, that will appear like they are in Panic Mode. This won’t go well for them as YouTubers and other influencers are already archiving screenshots.
In the words of Washington DC press corps, “it’s not the lie, it’s the coverup!!!”.
If Bambu attempt to start ban discussion, it will give the appearance that they have something to hide.
All I can say is that I’m glad I don’t have the job of their PR guy. What a nightmare this is going to be for whoever that person is.
Besides the “classic” organization stuff, mounts and adapters for all kinds of hardware and the biggest portion gets into cases for custom keyboards. Enclosures for smart home/electronics projects, either community made or created by me. Not running 24/7 but I could not imagine going without one. I do have the occasional not functional print, mainly kids stuff, but that’s not the main focus for me.
I currently use a heavily modded Ender 3 S1 for ABS/ASA, and getting something more refined for that use case is something I had in mind for some time now. Bambu was already pretty much off the table as I want Klipper again and this change now only confirmed to keep them out for more hardware. Currently I’m even thinking of not using my shipping delay coupons to not give them any more of my money…
Why don’t you use the Bambu for ASA/ABS
It’s an A1 the Ender has a custom enclosure, the A1 does not.
Pray tell, how will software on other computers, compromised in a network attack, interact with my printer without the auth code from the printer, which already exists as a secure measure and is used to encrypt the frames (nevermind my printer being in a tightly controlled VLAN where the network infrastructure would not let anything talk to it)?
They can’t force it on us if we block the printer’s internet access.
