I just watched this and now I feel bit uneasy with my printer.
I’m hoping for more firmware hacks. I have not yet opened my printer, but I think it should be possible to read the flash memory, modify the firmware to accept firmware signed by us, add/replace the bambu certificates, reverse engineer the cloud API and implement a self hosted open source version of it.
Everyone talking about why. Well my 2 cents is it is for Security reasons and that call gun control by having all prints go to the Cloud they can have ai look for anything that look like a gun part then Deny the print. Its been in the news for months now as a way that government can stop so call ghost gun.
Well, if this isnt resolved looks like i’ll be selling my A1 cheap.
Bambu said something big was coming 2025… didn’t expect it to be this big!
Really bad move Bambu, really bad move, you guys where making it big, you’re now moving towards a BIG fail and downfall.
That’s possible too. A mainboard swap is a bit of a last resort, but they sold a PILE of these things. I don’t expect a community of makers to take this lying down.
There they already have a really good score of 2,4 - think they really
try hard to get to 0. I wonder do they know 10 is good 0 is really bad?
They will catch up with Creality in no time.
Boy, I hope no one ever finds out about CNC mills.
I kinda doubt that’s the entire motivation, but it may be used as a justification. It’s just ridiculous enough to make sense in 2025.
This where all other printer manufactures use this to their advantage and could lead to Bambu becoming a failed company over greed and control.
I can see the advertisements now…
“Introducing…Freedom… the new 3DPrinter by FlashForge
Use what software you want, tweak what you want…we don’t care
Don’t be a Panda and eat just bambu all day everyday…”
I will delay any bambu purchases until this is reversed…
Bambu Lab is just going down the same road as Microsoft, Apple, John Deere, Cannon, Sony, Samsung and hundred if not more, its just the tip of the wedge. How long will it be before they start charging for downloads from MakerWorld or making any other filament other than Bambu Labs own filament not work(we already have the RFID tags) If they continue it won’t last long legally as there are more dislikers than likers and the system will be hacked, they only have themselves to blame. I was just looking to buy another Bambu Lab printer and this changed my mind, the other makes are catching up, fast.
Just wanted to add a reply here to also express unhappiness with this terrible decision.
Is Bambu strapped for revenue? If they aren’t moving enough units why not just scale down production, focus on ux, improve handy with lan mode printers, add features, and make more accessories/filaments. Why are they playing these double speak games with us when their motives are obvious? Right when we thought things would improve after offline firmware updates were introduced.
Bambu needs to look towards how Valve conducts themselves. They are clearly trying to rent seek at this point. I can already sense the class action lawsuits being aimed. Firewall your printers from the internet. Let it die, and buy an alternative down the road. This is a epic disaster.
From my point of view, the problem could be solved quite easily:
The Bambu Cloud should only(!) be used if I, as a user, decide to use the Bambu Handy app to keep an eye on my printers remotely. Otherwise, everything that happens in MY local network should remain in MY local network! There is no technical reason at all why both Bambu Studio and Bambu Handy should take the dangerous detour via the cloud for any communication with MY printers in MY local network! Not a single one.
I was honestly about to buy a P1S as my first Bambu labs printer, and this announcement of giving up control over your own printer after you buy it has made me change my decision. The printers have great reviews, and this new business practice is predatory and insane. I’ll be spending my money elsewhere.
Hey best of both worlds if it’s only for the X1E (enterprise version)
I will write this also here since i think i need to.
I will speak for myself only and not for others. I will also keep the rage in check.
This is absolutely wrong, have no doubt about it, but selling your printers while losing money and your hobby, won’t take you anywhere. Keep them! They are workhorses! Just don’t support them anymore from now on. This is the way!
There are ways around it… for now. And, as a happy person that values his Bambu printers for what they are, i have to be also completely honest. They are worth the price, just not the trouble the company puts out with every bright idea they have.
Don’t sell your printers! Don’t rage against each other! Don’t be rude here in the forum, on reddit, facebook, discord or anywhere else. Voices are to be heard and they are only heard when speaking loudly. We are speaking and we are loud! We should behave like people and not animals. But we also should be more vocal about the way industry is going forward. Being vocal is what we can do as human beings. If it doesn’t work, don’t support these practices any further until these companies get the point. Our wallet is their power. Without our wallet they have no power.
Until we know what will happen with 100% certain, we have a way to mitigate this and that is going full LAN mode while we can.
This is the way of me saying that is good to have the community together after so many years and my Thank you for that.
Until then, follow this simple but effective guide on how to go offline while still enjoying your printers. After all, it’s your hardware, bought with your money.

I’ve actually switched my a1 mini to Lan mode and went into my router and set its Mac and up address to not allow it internet access to stop the updates to the firm ware
Capitalizing on other people’s misfortune makes you a sociopath. In the future, do not flaunt your sociopathy online. It’s a bad look.
I just did the same. It’s going to suck to not be able to see the camera on my X1C or check the progress of a print from my iPad, but until they reverse this decision I’m no longer allowing them to connect to the internet.
They disabled the live camera feed in the Handy app for X1 carbon. I have no idea if this is for all printer models, but it is for the X1 + LAN only mode + Handy. After wasting days on this I reached out to support only to get this reply:
We would like to kindly remind you that LAN Only mode cannot be used with Bambu Handy . If you wish to use LAN Only mode , you will need to operate via a PC and Bambu Studio .
So yeah, now I cannot monitor my print via my cell phone when I am away from home. They pretty much nerfed the camera on purpose so you either use the cloud or agree to not using the camera. One of the main reasons I bought the X1C was so I could keep an eye on my prints remotely.
