This new auth system will make me sell my printers

I’m not sure you fully understand but even LAN users will be affected by this… custom firmware is also affected as this directly impacts everyone outside their platform. They were mad when the X1 Plus team made their first custom firmware and received backlash but this is entirely different as it’s now preventing use of a third party slicer which Bambu studios is built on…

This is a major foot cut off.

I’ve been using my X1C with my AMS for over a year and a half, almost exclusively on Orcaslicer because it handles certain features and settings much better than BambuStudio. This is a major turnaround as has seriously sullied my opinion of the brand. I’ll still be using my X1C until I’m forced to update my firmware, but unless this choice is rolled back I don’t image I’ll be buying any more bambu printers.

This completely destroys print farms as well. Custom automation, specific Orcaslicer settings, PandaTouch, etc. Really feels like Bambu is shooting themselves in the foot her.

Well instead of making users happy and have them coming back on their own free will they took the easy way use the stick and force people.
Personally I hope wast majority of users would go to competition.
This is mostly our hobby and they would like to force users to be in their ecosystem completely - which if it would work flawlessly i think nobody would mind. But the experience using their Makerworld, Maker lab which integrates with bambu slicer is HORIBLE - fells like drowning in the middle of the ocean.

Fells like time for other brand will be coming on top
My brother has Anycubic Kobra 3 combo and I am genuinely surprised how well it works… DIY user would not notice the diference it and P1S combo. So options are there and this year new printers will be coming out on pair with Bambu.

I mean what is so special on Bambuu why it works ? Because they made user profiles for filament - this is why it works 99% of the time and no other brand offered this so well tested and tuned.
For me when I use filament is not from Bamboo - the price is higher than i can get it elsewhere ( 50%) then add shipping cost … so i need to make my own profile - Granted I can use premade ones and tweak those.
Hardware in their printers is generic Chinese quality -parts easily sourced on AliExpress. Anyone doing any maintenance on it and has a bit of mechanic in himself noticed that.
Then there is BiQu which will for sure come out with a solution in couple of months and break Bambuu users chains and setting them free - it will cost but …

When I will not be able to use the printer easily as now due to their policy out of the window it goes. Simple as that - looks like lots of users will do this as well. Me personally am mad about myself buying P1S 6 months ago.

I’m also very critical of this, the security issue is a pretext. I will never install the firmware like this and I won’t ever buy a new printer. Prusa, here I come.

There’s FLSUN and QIDI as well. Don’t let others fall short because of the presentation Bambu lab set off.

We’re here because we love to print! Now let’s help the others build something extraordinary. We can’t be subject to 1 or 2 companies, Prusa Research hurts me with the prices they’ve set :joy:

How’d he get one so fast? Mine is still weeks away from even shipping. I saw a video where a dude opened up the back, and it looks like it’s a normal main board so it must be running a klipper variant of sorts. Seems it will be easier to fiddle with.

Bambu needs to make LAN mode for more experienced people and print farm users, it should even need a network plug-in. In LAN mode it should work like every other machine works and network security is up to the user.
I doubt they will because in all the time that LAN (LIMP) mode has been available, they haven’t even built in all the functionality like renaming the printer or SD card access.

You mean no firmware upgrade to version 01.08.03.00, no Studio update to version 01.10.02.64, or Handy update to version 2.17.0 don’t you?

See this above

We need to get articles written In publications, write an open letter, get YouTubers to comment, etc… only through public shaming will Bambulab feel the pain.

The “security” reason couldn’t be weaker.

I must be the only person here thinking  So whats the problem?

Im new to Bambu but not new to 3D printing, Ive got both Bambu Studio & Orca on my pc & see no difference at all between the two so I still use Bambu Studio as my preferred slicer…

Can someone please explain why using Orca over Bamboo Studio is a must :person_shrugging: what does Orca do that Bambu Studio doesn’t do?..

My thoughts on Bambu today

I’d go for E-5

I think it is not a must. Orca seems to be a bit ahead but you absolutely don’t need it to enjoy 3D printing.

I think it is more the broader message. What is next? For security reasons we won’t accept sliced files from other slicers? For security reasons we don’t accept models from other websites? For security reasons you can’t download from MakerWorld anymore, only direct to printer? For security reasons we won’t allow 3rd party filament anymore? For security reasons… etc… etc…

Bottom line it is the tendency to create a monopoly and brand dependability in order to get people to fully commit to their ecosystem. And since they have a majority of the market this might be the moment to close everything off before people are branching out to other brands.

I think this is creating the stir as well. Not that we will be depending on a crappy slicer, because it is not a crappy slicer. But just that we will be depending on having everything Bambu, just like Apple/Google/Tesla/…

Switch on “advanced” and see twice as many settings.

I think this is absolutely scandalous, as a 3D printer user for 10 years used to locked in proprietary hardware and software (CEL Robox UK designed 3D printers), who also has had more open source printers too, I really appreciate the UX and reliability that my X1C had, but preferred Orca slicer as it allowed me to send prints to my other printers too, all from one slicer.

This really does suck, and it’s bad enough waiting for “Send to Print” to complete to 100% these last few days, but having to export a .3mf file from Orca to another app aka Bambu Connect, which is in beta BTW and still doesn’t support live camera feed… c’mon you haven’t thought this through, as you are plainly alienating print farms, business users, more aware 3D printer users, at the expense of first time users who will know no better, or as well as the backlash you will get.

I have owned a Bambu X1C Combo for over 2 years which has been upgraded with quality E3D parts and very reliable, other than the AMS printer filament run out, and was patiently waiting for the next bigger volume printer from Bambu, but if this proprietary restriction goes ahead unabated or not modified, I will be not getting anymore Bambu printers and transition to Klipper based machines, and sell my existing Bambu printer.

New Year, new resolution

Exactly most is to force user to do or use something. Once there, the price can go up … Changes like this are not over night but gradual once you realise it there is no way back…

Exapmle : Not so long ago scarf seam was not possible on Bambu - Orca had it.
With new release who knows what you will new options you will get, and if it will come to Bambu.
More controls on the fans - in Bambu I need to modify G code ( not successfully with it) to turn off the chamber fan in Orca i can set it to what ever I want - no fuss. ASA printed with Bambu sliced file does not stick it warps it under extrudes. Same profile used in Orca no issues - by same profile i mean literally same no changes whatsoever. How is this possible?
Also the slicing seems to be a bit better usually Orca sliced files have shorter print times than Bambu slicer

For last 3 months I’m on Orca I do not have any issues with connectivity to the printer. Main reason i tried also Orca.
Also the Handy app seems to be working better - before had multiple times connection issues - where unbinding and binding the printer to app in order to get it to work was a must. This I’m not sure how could be related to slicer bit last 3 months no issues.

It is in small things and changes that make the diference. For me biggest sign to stay away is the poor integration of Makerworld and Makerlab to the slicer some users say it works properly but there a couple of us who know this is far from working properly - at least for user. I am logged in you know I have P1S it’s on cloud how the hell i get in the Bambu slicer A1 mini profile? Either from Makerworld either from Makerlab?
Here they could take lessons from Prusa how it needs to be done. Their Printables + their Prusa slicer + any printer brand you want using Prusa slicer it works, download model it does not open in MK3 or Core 1 it opens in printer you have set in slicer. Make signs etc in their lab - opens in Prusa slicer still has your settings your actual printer. And i do not remember how long ago software “forgot” the name of the file you opened - Bambu sure does not remember . Also Orca doesn’t but…
I used Prusa since version 2.0 was out think almost 10 years ago. I never liked their printers but as for Slicer it’s first choice - did not use it due to AMS but will be visiting back for 2.9 version.

No, don’t hit the middle, anywhere around the rim for the next user :stuck_out_tongue:

This is just a joke, I will absolutely not update my A1 once this hits that line also. Not only bad enough you already strip basic features from the printer if its in LAN Mode only, this makes it 10x worse. If my printer runs in LAN Mode, I dont need any special authorization bs system.

First and last Bambu Printer (but well I knew that before), now Im just waiting for the AMS to become dependant on RFID tags for filament, which now is more realistic than ever before.

The decision to lock down the Bambu environment under the pretext of security is outrageous, and imposing it on everyone is completely unacceptable! It would have been far more acceptable to make this “security enhancement” optional, configurable via preferences.

From now on, I have decided not to apply any firmware updates, Bambu Studio updates, or Bambu Handy updates. Unfortunately, I am convinced that Bambu will eventually find a way to block its services (remote access, video streams, etc.) for machines that are not up to date.

Lastly, I want to clarify that when the time comes to replace my equipment, I will choose another brand. I even believe that Bambu’s decisions are accelerating my decision to switch to a different 3D printer!

Being thinking of getting more P1S, but if this is their stance on thing, I’m for sure not getting any more Bambu printers.
Seem to me that Bambu have no interest in improving the LAN experience and is endlessly pushing for Bambu cloud. Security improvement claims are BS, if they really care about security, they’d make lan mode more usable and promote lan mode.
They just want telemetry , and a walled off ecosystem.
Can EU come and investigate Bambu like how they did it with Apple?

Already filed a formal complaint with national Ombudsman, earlier this morning, following the Bambu’s latest “customer experience improvement” and its “cloud security concerns”, adding the “arguments” invoked by Bambu on its blog (see below) and pointing out the flagrant breach not just of their legal obligations under the GDPR and ePrivacy directive, but also Bambu’s blatant disregard of the the EU’s Cyber Resilience Act (Regulation 2024/2848) provisions on safeguarding EU-based consumers against such practices. I’ll share the summary of the Ombudsman’s response once I’ll get it. In the meantime, I’d strongly suggest to anyone concerned by this latest Bambu “security improvement” not to update their printer firmware and apps software to the latest versions, and to file formal complaints with their national consumer protection bodies.
