Thoughts on having to print your model before uploading

I don’t get the logic. You don’t want to print models but say so what if you upload and it just sits? Why upload it at all then? If you don’t want to test print and don’t care if anyone d/l’s it, why complain?

There are some prints that aren’t critical. Others that have to fit other pieces or have some critical dimension are. I’ve sometimes had to redesign/print things a few times with my own designs to get them right. Sometimes they are good to go first print. But I can’t tell without a print to verify.

There’s been a number of models posted recently with no photo that don’t even have a .3mf and I can tell from my own experience they won’t print. Scammers/spammers like to not supply photos either.

I very much support the photo requirement and know from personal experience why it’s necessary. Until you see a photo of a print you just don’t know. Frustrating the spammers is just a bonus.

For better or worse, Bambu is trying to have people use an app to send things to their printers. They want one click printing to sell more printers to people with less experience. To do that they need all the prints to be valid and the only way to do that is with a photo.

And as an aside, I have a design I could post now if I didn’t need a photo. I have to wait on some filament colors to get here to print it and take a photo. I still get why this is needed though.
