TIL you can download Maker Supply part models for reference

I’ve seen some posts on here about how the Beginner kit parts wouldn’t even arrive before the beginner kit contest ends. I’m in the same situation, I don’t have the kit parts so I cannot contribute, or so I thought…

Today I learned you can download the 3d models of the parts provided in Beginner kit here https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0584/7236/6216/files/Maker_s_Beginner_Kit_B-ZC002_Model.zip?v=1733801599 which could then be used as reference models for your designs.

For the Essential kit it is a little bit harder in that you have to go into each part and download the 3d model. But this means literally any part on Maker supply can be referenced in your 3d design softwares if you can import stl files!

For example, here are all of the stl’s from the beginner kit opened in my slicer:

For most parts you have to scroll down to the ‘3D Model’ link, click it, download the zip file, unzip it, navigate into the folders to find the stl files.

Maybe this was already well known information, but I’m sure there are a couple of other people out there like me that didn’t know this was possible.

Happy designing!

Yes, they can be useful, but I recommend at least testing it with the real parts to make sure the tolerances are correct. Whether that’s you testing it or a friend or even a follower if you make a community post and ask for participants.

Not all of the model files are suitable to without amendments to achieve the goal of using them to assist in model design.

The clockwork walking model requires additional geometry before you can use it as a negative object for Boolean operations.

In addition to the 3D models, I feel like more and more components include Application Instructions. I just utilized some for a motor yesterday and the instructions included multiple models/mechanisms for the coupling along with reference models. I still had to tweak them but it was a really helpful head- start!
