I have an X1C with AMS that I have had for about 7 months with decent usage. For the most part everything has been flawless. But in the past week with several different spools (all Bamblu PLA) I keep getting this AMS Assist motor overload error. When I check it out it seems like the filament is pulling from the edge of the spool and it has become a little tangled. A little tug seems to free it and off it goes until it happens again in a few hours. Has anyone else seen this problem pop up lately? I know there was an AMS firmware update relatively recently but I can’t remember exactly when that was. And is this an AMS problem or is it possible I got a batch of spools that were not loaded properly? Any ideas are appreciated.
It’s possible you got some rolls that are not wound up neatly. But check to make sure the two halves of the spool are locked properly. If they are not locked fully, there can be a gap between the spool wall and the filament roll that the filament can get into and become hard to pull out by the AMS motor.
Are these possibly refills? If yes I find that pushing down hard on the filament all the way around the spool when you first put the refill in helps with the tangling around the edges. You want to push until you hear it cracking from separating…you’ll kind of feel it loosen up.
There are some instructions for refills that say to do this but most of what I’ve seen doesn’t. Not sure why they leave it out because it’s pretty important to prevent tangling.
It’s the Step 4 in the Bambu Lab Wiki instruction on refills.

No - they are all regular spools - not refills.
I haven’t had that happen with regular spools as of yet but definitely get it on the refills. You might want to try pressing on the filament like you would if it was a refill to see if that helps. Worth a shot anyway!
Yep this is it. I don’t know why they don’t add that step on the instructions they send with the refills though…
Yes, should be included with every refill, as not many read Wiki, or even aware of it.
I ran into one roll that came with the spool before that had a couple of hiccups at the beginning of the roll.
I am not impressed with the winding of BL filaments. I don’t know if it’s due to the fact that BL spool has two halves, but some other brands such as Sunlu have neater winding.
