Too high a layer mid print and part seperates

Hello All,

I am having an issue that is very repeatable. About 10mm into a print it seems the Z axis moves too far and the next layer is not adhered and the entire print then can be peeled apart at this location. Its happening on every print now since the software update. Anyone else have this issue? I am wondering if its an issue with the leadscrew and I will try and clean them and relube them tomorrow, but I did this recently so I doubt its that.

Any ideas?

First thing in my mind was the lead screws that you mentioned. If there was some debris on a screw that caused a minor skip or something. I don’t know. That was just the first thing n my head. Do you have any photos?

When i updated to the latest bambu studio, i had a similar repeatable issue that the base layer all would go ok and then it would shift layers and be completely off. I rolled back the software on the pc (just ran prior version installer and installed over what was there). At the same time, I went to the printer turned it off, unplugged, while unplugged, switched power to on to make sure it drained out… then switched off, then plugged back in and powered up. I redid calibration and after a pc reboot, all has been working just fine. If it was working just fine and the only thing was software, i would start with that first and ensuring the unit is power cycled and re calibrated before messing with other adjustments.

here is the issue I am having with an X1C and polycarbonate. Prints perfectly up to about 10mm then all of a sudden it acts like the z drops too far and I have a bad layer totally delaminated and the infill starts to get extremely rough. I have burnt through 2 rolls of Bambu PC and no matter how many things I ttry and clean or fix it wont go away. I may tear apart the extruder to see if the gear is worn, but I feel its a slicer issue since it happens every time around 10mm into the part. If I print a 6mm tall part its perfect. The part shown below is something I print and sell. Last week I printed 25 without a single issue and I print 3 at a time. Now I cant even print one. I feel something got screwed up with the software update. Also when I print PETG with the stock profile it says the bed is too hot and I should open the door. WTF… Something changed and I bet others having the same issue. Bambu support said they were understaffed in the email so no idea when I will sort this out. I am considering resetting the printer to factory specs but unsure how to roll back the slicer software.

Id like to try and slow the printer down to see if it helps. How do I change the print speed?

Print a slender tower to 10mm and beyond to rule out z-axis issues. I think it’s heat-creep. I’d check the fan on the nozzle head - replace that with another unit if you have one on hand.

Check the sliced preview first under speed. Make note of it then lower the volumetric flow in the filaments settings. That’ll tend to cap the max speed it can go. There’s also layer time under ‘max fan speed threshold’ that you can increase if the layers are small - that’ll also slow it down.

I have the same issue, Bambu Lab X1C and only printed near 3 kg filament.
@MARCWWEBSTER Did you find the cause and solution of the current problem?

I’m found a cause, nozzle was clogged and this amazing video helped me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFlOVfbktAM

upd:
it was not fully clogged, but after some time of extrusion extruder couldn’t pushed filament and producing mechanical sound, after few attempt extrusion was successfully continued.
I was successfully clean nozzle with method which is described on video start from 1m08s. But I’m tried all of them and even more.
