Toolhead smoking and smelling burnt, of Bambu Lab A1

The print head on my 3D printer started to smell like something was burning a few days ago. I contacted bambulab but they didn’t offer me a clear solution with only the smell. Today, when I unloaded the filament, it started to smoke quite a bit. I’ve contacted them again, but I’d like to know what you think about what you see, and above all, be careful if you start to smell something burning.

It happens with all type of noozles and filaments, no exception.

It can happen when the filament is unloaded and reloaded into the printer because the nozzle reaches 250 degrees.
If it’s smoking while you’re printing, then that seems like a serious problem.

PS: Mine also occasionally smokes a bit when I’m loading the filament.

You’ll have some degree of “smoke” with some filaments during filament loading/swapping/unloading due to higher temps used. Sometimes its moisture in your filament (not dried well enough), other times I’m assuming its the additives. Without an IR temp reading you’d be guessing to how hot the nozzle is. If it isn’t causing heat creep and clogs I’d lean towards your filament stock needing to be dried.

This isn’t happening during the normal print cycle? My suggestion would be a factory reset and keep on at Bambu support.

Check what is under the extruder front plate, i.e. if plastics found its way up into the hothead mounting / brace mechanism.
