Top Layer is very rough

Hi,

Recently purchased A1 and have been obtaining great prints from it. Ran into a problem yesterday when after having added an AMS Lite and upgrading the firmware.

I use eSun PLA+ and have not adjusted any of the settings I get from the Bambu slicer.

I have uploaded two photos.

The one in all orange is prior to adding AMS Lite and updating firmware.

The one with the black is after. The orange top surface is very rough (interestingly the black top surface isn’t).

The orange PLA is 7 days old - so effectively new.

Can anybody help me correct my issue.

I have attached the .3mf file should that provide any insight.

Thanks

The first image looks fine, at least visually. It’s hard to tell whether or not there’s actually something wrong with the print in the first image because my prints come out with top surfaces like that and feel fine. However, if you really think there’s an issue, you could try manually calibrating your flow ratio, which is a relatively easy process that can be done through BambuStudio.

Sorry I probably wasn’t clear. The top photo was before updating firmware and installing AMS Lite. I was happy with that result.

The bottom photo was after - and that is when the problem started. Not happy with the finish in the lower photo.

Thanks

Pete

Ah I see. In that case, consider trying to downgrade your firmware version to eliminate it being firmware related. You can do so via Bambu Handy:

Then select any previous version, re-slice, and try printing again to see if that helps.

If it turns out not to be a firmware issue, then it’s likely related to AMS. In this case, I’d try swapping the black and orange spools to each other’s slots and re-slicing again. If this time, the orange prints done but the black prints bad, then it might be an issue related to the specific AMS slot. Otherwise, I’m not too sure what AMS would do to affect the top layer.

Are you using ironing?

Thanks I’ll try those suggestions. First, uninstall Firmware, print. If still probs, I’ll switch filaments around.

I don’t believe I’m using ironing. Certainly I haven’t consciously employed it. Should I be using it as matter of course?

Sometimes ironing (if the settings are incorrect or if printing high temp materials) looks like this. Sometimes, when I need a good looking top layer, ill use hilbert curve. Its not a smooth finish but it looks really good. Sorry if this doesnt help.

You probably already know, but always rerun all calibrations after a firmware update also.

Reinstalling the previous firmware appears to have solved the problem

Not sure why…but I’ll take it

Thanks @CosmicDev and @StreetSports for your assistance.
