Top of Bucket closed off after slicing

When printing the Bucket in upright Position, which is in my opinion preferable, the Top gets closed off!

When printing sideways, turned by 90°, a support structure is used, the Bucket gets printed correctly with the openings open!

Any Ideas what goes wrong?

Thanks for your help!

Hello Marcel,

This rim part of your model, selected in the screenshot below, has open edges, as per the warning icon and message at lower right (the model is also known as not being “water tight”). When oriented horizontally, the openings happen to be preserved, but when oriented vertically the slicer assumes it should be be solid on top. Ultimately an incomplete mesh is going to be unpredictable when sliced.

In fact if you try to repair that rim mesh (either within Studio if you use Windows, or via an external utility otherwise), you’ll see that it also ends up as a solid piece, with no openings, regardless of how it is oriented.

If the rim part is deleted (leaving only part “1” as “Zusammenbau”), then the base model reports open edges. If that is repaired, it all works property, with openings regardless of orientation when sliced. However, it loses the rounded rim – assuming part “2” is supposed to be a rim, not a lid…

Ideally the original model can be fixed so there are no open edges. Otherwise some kind of manual repair work may need to be undertaken, depending on desired result…

HTH,
-Max
