Printed perfect from the top directly into the hotend. Thanks for all the help, I think I just over complicated things in my mind as this printed so easy.
I use TPU 95A in my AMS HT all the time.
Make sure your filament feed tube paths are as straight and smooth as possible. No tight bends!
Load the TPU, edit the filament to āBambu TPU for AMSā, slice and print. Youāre just telling the printer a little fib about whatās actually loaded. Itās that simple!
I print often with TPU 95A HF using this model placed on the top. Takes 3m to setup/remove and be sure to cold-pull your nozzle clean. Load into the manual side spool holder in the printer filament settings not AMS HT and let the printhead drag the filament out the rear AMS HT port, no PTFE tubing. Looks messy but works every time.

This is my setup. Iāve printed from the top but this seems like the best setup and is also how I print carbon fiber filament
Note the teflon tubing is two pieces to allow easy feeding of the filament.
The spool is suspended on a shaft with a bearing, that has less drag than using the two rollers inside the Ams ht
The exit angle is also part of keeping the drag down.
The bearing support doubles as a container for extra desiccant
I know thereās a TPU high flow nozzle coming - not sure how itāll be different from current regular or high flow nozzles, not sure what the TPU assist will be yet.
I know the AMS HT is currently able to feed some TPUs without any help at all, I do it all the time with a mostly stock setup thatās just optimized a bit, so this could be a device that just adds that bit of extra help to make it possible to feed TPUs directly from the AMS without having to do all the fiddling.
Yup, thatās right, I remember that now. Honestly itās probably going to function just like an AMS feed motor to help push filament along so the extruder isnāt having to pull it.
So weird that they are insisting on only feeding TPU externally, Iām sure the assist motor could be equally useful as a āboosterā to help feed filament from an AMS unit.
Iāll have to get one when they come out to see how hackable they truly areā¦
My guess it will feed it until the filament sensor detects it and then turn it off completely. Even release the feed rollers

I donāt agree.
It wouldnāt make sense to develop a whole accessory to just achieve filament loading, for softer TPUs like 85A itās stretchy enough that an external spool just hanging on a peg wont feed. Filament will just stretch and eventually the extruder will be starved.
The specific spot on the back of the printer has a 6-pin AMS connector, I think itās going to function exactly like an AMS feed motor.
For the buffer, three things are possible: either 1) the unit has a buffer, which could easily be part of the design given the size of it, 2) no buffer is needed, itās OK to slightly overfeed TPU, it will just wrinkle slightly in the feed tube if itās overfed, or 3) since the path is relatively short the unit could use the same servo-based feed motor as the H2 series extruders, so itās actively modulating the feed based on load sensing.
I think 2 and 3 would be difficult to achieve you are basically relying on a certain amount of push back when feeding
Since Iāve have some experience pushing tpu through ptfe tubing, that is my opinion

You just need a softer buffer. Which is already available from products like the LLL Plus Buffer. Replacing the spring to a softer spring and you get butter smooth fast 85A prints.
