I am trying to print something with my A1, I would like the first several layers to be TPU and the rest PETG, mostly for aesthetics, but also durability.
I know TPU cannot (should not, because TECHNICALLY you can make it work) be use in the AMS lite, so I would start the print manually with the filament on the spool holder, and ideally at the proper level do a filament change via the preview tab…i have never done a color change via the slicer like this…or of any kind actually.
I guess my question is, will the printer automatically use the ams based petg filament?
If I have to manually unload the TPU and manually hang and feed the PETG on the spool holder, will the print pause at that level automatically?
I am mostly concerned that the printer will try to use TPU settings to print PETG, assuming I can even get that far…Or will I have to somehow manually set settings after I change filaments?
Basically explain this process like I am 5 years old and have no idea what im doing.
Thanks!

do you have a solution? i am trying the same now…
Honestly I don’t even remember what I was trying to print
Before I got the H2D I used to combine PETG and TPU for built in gaskets etc. You just insert a pause and swap materials mid print.

Thanks, that is almost the same I wanted to do. But I want to keep the petg in the AMS lite. I just cut the TPU manually with the lever at the print head and pulled it out manually. Then pushed the petg from the AMS lite manually forward. Problem was to purge the old Filament manually. I removed the ptfe from the print head, pushed some new Filament out then opened the idler on the print head and feed Filament without the ptfe directly to purge until the ptfe was reaching the print head and plugged it in. Luckily it was enough to change color in this case.
Still don’t get it, would be easy to implement this via bambu studio, like a guided instruction on the display.
- Cut manually (or even automatically like with AMS)
- Pull back Filament
- Press ok to let AMS feed new Filament.
- Purge old automatically…
Let’s hope we get that some day

I think they will never implement a feature like that as it would be like shooting themselves in the foot with the incoming deluge of support tickets when something goes wrong, which will inevitably happen. They are trying to make things simpler, not complicate things. The real solution to multi-material with TPU is H2D.
