This is about TREE style support. I use supports in many of my prints which are ABS but I use the “Support for AMS” filament and that has worked out pretty well. This is the mounting bracket for the TPU Assist Module right off MakerWorld
Supports have two different styles, TREE, and NORMAL with it being easy to understand why Tree has the name it does with all of the various branches.
Yesterday (6/27) I opted to use tree supports and this is the “Tree” support. It popped off no problems but was not at all what I am used to seeing. Normal supports significantly increased the print time
It worked fine. Just not what I was expecting. This is setting = Tree and Default
Looks like TreeHybrid subtype of Tree, they add normal support for boxy flat areas. Did the slicer select that now by default when using 0 distance supports?

Apparently that is the case. The orientation I used to print the bracket was not the default orientation. But all the orientations were going to make for a long overnight print. I was flipping bracket all kinds of ways and trying tree vs normal, and the “Normal” style were all a few hours longer. So put it to Tree and default options.
I think people do not like using supports because of the surface finish, I know I do not like having to deal with the finish imperfections. I just bought a spool of the support for PLA/PETG but have not used it yet. That second picture with the white surface is Support for ABS and that stuff is worth every penny.
