Trending Models section is biased to show the same models

The “Trending Models” section on the front page of MakerWorld seems to be promoting models with lots of recent downloads but this creates a feedback loop where existing Trending Models are given more exposure than new models and continue to gain even more downloads giving them a permanent spot on the front page and overshadowing new content.

It would be great if the Trending Models section only showed new models that are being discovered, downloaded and printed. Once a model has been trending for over a week it should be removed from the trending section to allow new models to gain exposure and diversify the MakerWorld ecosystem.

edit: To add onto this idea, as models are removed from trending you can take the top designs and make them featured models (essentially switching the current sections). I believe this would also simplify the process on MakerWorlds side as they can rely on trending models to find new and interesting models to feature and print rather than sifting through all new models as they’re submitted.

On other sites, Trending models can only be on the list for 30 days. I believe this is what MakerWorld is also doing.

Since MakerWorld is a new model community, we change Trending to 7 days. The period may be changed longer after several months.
