Troubleshooting Help Needed: Bambu A1 Nozzle Dragging and Leaking

Hey everyone,

I’m in need of some advice regarding my Bambu A1 printer. Lately, it’s been acting up after many hours of printing. The main issue I’m experiencing is that the nozzle seems to be dragging or scraping across my prints, causing them to fail.

After doing some research, I realized that my printer probably needed some overdue maintenance, so I went ahead and did the basics: cleaned the nozzle, checked the extruder, tightened all the belts, and lubricated the necessary parts. However, even after all that, the problem persisted.

I then trammed/leveled the bed, thinking that would surely fix the issue. Unfortunately, it didn’t. I ran a test print afterward (I’ll attach a photo for reference), and I noticed that not only is the nozzle still dragging, but it also leaks filament when it’s at printing temperatures.

Has anyone else experienced this? Could the dragging be related to the leaking filament? I’d really appreciate any suggestions or troubleshooting tips you might have.

For what it’s worth, I purchased a new nozzle and hotend today and plan to replace them soon, hoping that will solve these issues. But I’d like to hear your thoughts
Thanks in advance for your help!

A few thoughts.

  • Have you rerun the calibration?
  • Have you tried more than one filament?
  • Is your filament dry?
  • Your photo doesn’t show a wide enough angle to show if the spool on the left is your source filament spool
  • Also, not sure if an AMS is installed and in use.
  • The black line hanging in the middle of the shot in the photo looks like the data cable that goes to the print head, is that a gouge cut into it right in the middle?
  • You mention you have bought a nozzle and a hot-end, these are usually used to describe the same thing, can you provide links to what you ordered to clarify?
  • How long have you had the printer and how many printing hours have you used it for? Use the screen and look under the device menu for the value.

Based on the information you have provided, it looks like the plate needs to be cleaned.

Please wash the plate with hot water and detergent, to ensure there are no contaminants on it. After washing, avoid touching the surface.

If the problem persists after washing the plate, it is also recommended to check the Heating Assembly on the hotend. Remove the nozzle then tighten the three screws of the Heating Assembly.

Re-install the nozzle, then perform a full calibration before trying to print again.

Of course, it is important to ensure that the file printed is sliced for the filament selected, and the Textured PEI Plate.

Mr. Oracle,
By have I rerun the calibration do you mean the calibration that’s an option at the start of prints, if so then yes I have done that

I have tried other filaments

My filament should be dry I just purchased a filament dryer and that print was my first time using it.

yes my spool is on the left

the AMS is installed and in use I dont know how to run filament without it

yes that is the data cable and it somehow came into contact with my nozzle and the nozzle gouged it

this is what I purchased this hotend Amazon.com

and I have 1268 hours of print time (which is alot more than I thought I had)

No there is an option on the printer.

Settings > Maintenance > Calibration

It will run all the tests the printer asks to run the first time you get it.

The AMS should be placed to the right of the printer, which is the reason I asked if I could see a spool on the left. The PTFE tubes are cut to a specific length with the intention of placing them to the right of the printer and the data cable (black, which looked as if it had a cut in it) should be running along the length of the PTFE tubes and tucked into the fifth notch of the retaining discs. This keeps the tubes/cable bundle in one place and away from the printed model and the mechanical parts of the printer.

Yeah, this always catches people out, we know we use them a lot, we just don’t realise how much we use them.

So, when I look at the picture, I think you might need to thoroughly clean the plate. For me, cleaning helps, and if that doesn’t work, then I use glue.
