Is there a way to stop the slicer adding bridging on an overhang?
My part is printing in PLA and has a thin horizontal slot. Printing support in place for the slot is very hard to remove from the slot. So I came up with the idea of pre-printing a PETG piece that fits in the slot and provides support. So just before the overhang is printed the job pauses, I insert the pre-printed support then resume. After printing, the PETG piece is easily removed in one piece.
But the slicer insists that the “overhang” is printed as bridging as there is no way I can tell it it is fully supported and can print a normal shell. The surface finish of the top of the slot would be better if it printed a normal shell layer.
There is no support to block. The slicer just sees an overhang and adds bridging. I’d use a modifier but there doesn’t seem to be a way to turn off bridging.
Just speculating a bit here in the absence of pics: Could this be a result of overextrusion due to the bridge flow being (usually) set to 1? In that case, lowering this value to the flow ratio of the calibrated filament may help.
I am currently looking for a way to disable bridging in Bambu Studio. While the discussions around this topic are quite engaging, I have yet to hear a direct answer to Paul’s question. Can anyone confirm whether it is possible to turn off bridging? Just need a yes or no
