Turns out that there is a wrong way to mount the spool holder

I printed a few kilograms of filament already and never had any problems, but for some reason my prusament spool kept getting stuck in that groove on the spool:

Turns out that you are not supposed to mount the holder like this

but instead like this

I am posting this in case someone else has or will have this problem, but I guess that is a rare issue

To your credit, many of the “roller bearing” spool holder modifications do mount the spool holder in this orientation.

If you are looking for a better way to mount spools, I do not have an AMS, and live in a humid place. I use a [mostly] air-tight container and run a 3mm bowden tube to the back of the printer. The 3mm bowden tube is the perfect internal diameter to snugly fit on the 1.75mm bowden tube that runs to the print head.
The extruder on the tool head is plenty strong enough to overcome the friction, I have been using this setup for about 2 years now.

This is the best set-up I’ve seen in my life.
