Unable to edit text after splitting model

Fairly new to all this so be gentle!
I have a model which is too big for my A1 Mini build plate, but I can split it in BS and print as two halves which is fine. The problem I have is that if I add text before I split the model I can’t then edit the text at a later date when I re-open the .3mf file. If I don’t split the model I can edit it as normal. What am I doing wrong or is it a quirk of BS?
I know I can split the model and then add text that seems to work OK but it makes it awkward getting spacing right between the halves., and before anyone suggests it I don’t have the physical room for a bigger printer, so it’s not an option.
Thanks for any help

Hi Brian,

Assuming the text has a split through it, I’d say that was expected behaviour. If you think about the two scenarios, with the un-split model, you have the text placed on a single object / part. When the model is split, the text is no longer across one object / part, so it can’t be edited across two objects / parts.

I think you’ve already come up with the answer, either split the text into two parts (might be a hassle getting it to line up, but should be a one off job to get it right - if you have the left half of the text right aligned, and the right part of the text left aligned). Or can you split the object so it doesn’t interfere with the text?

Good luck!

Hi Dave thanks for the response. Sorry I should have been clearer the text isn’t split it’s just the model itself.
Imagine a plaque for a door number as the model with the two numbers as individual text items one on the left and one on the right. the split is on the plaque right down the center between the two numbers.
I can get round it as I said by splitting the model first but it just seems odd that the seperate texts should be affected like this.

Does it become one object similar to if you have used a mesh boolean rather than two objects with a text_shape , ? (nope :grinning:)

It allows for some editing (painting) but not the text lettering , for that you would need to delete the text shape in objects and re-add it

Yup thanks for looking into it but that’s confirmed it for me, it’s not possible it’s a bit naff but I’ve split the model first now and saved that so I can use as a template for future use.
