Unknown print failure on the base layers

I am new to this printing thing and am scratching my head on a print. I have had great results with sample prints and several files off MakerWorld as well as several of my own models, but on this print one of 2 virtually identical parts (just different inlays) was a fail. The print completed without stopping but the print quality issue is drastic. This was printed on an H2D with PLA Basic and all default settings. As you may tell by the texture, the inlays were printed down on the print bed. I have had models fail as I tested the boundaries of what could be successfully printed but in this case it was literally right beside the other part with identical geometry. My first thought is “was there a bad section of the filament?”

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Wash your build plate with dish soap, hot water, and a nylon scrub brush. Dry with a paper towel.

Bad sections of filament aren’t a thing.

Looks like it wasn’t aligned with the bottom of the plate on the slicer and it has attempted to do some bridging as a result personally.

I thought maybe something on the plate, but it had just been cleaned a couple prints prior. The fact that the green adhered well yet the white did not has me looking for other explanations. This piece was pretty close to the edge so maybe a palm print contaminated it when flexing a previous print off the plate. Thanks for your input.

This actually makes sense. If the inlay was not flush with the main body, the first layer of the body would be floating a layer above the plate… I will check the model…

Yup… that was the issue. You are a wise man! I had not thought of that but now that I know it seems so obvious. :roll_eyes: I made a mistake, forgot about the 0.2 clearance offset from the top face, in the translation of the extruded parts. (Note the black and red slightly above the white body in the pic below.)

The white section of the part isn’t sitting on the bed so the printer is printing in air. In the preview section you can see what is printed on the first layer and you will only see the green section. You can either lower the whole part until the part is fully on the bed or raise the green section so it is inline with rest of the part.

If you upload the .3mf file for the part it will be easier to explain.

Thanks JonRaymond, I know this now thanks to Dann2707 (and reinforced by yourself.) I went to check the 3mf but cannot find the USB stick with that one, but it turns out it was incorrect in my Fusion model. I now know what that error looks like :slightly_smiling_face: and hopefully this topic can help someone else someday.
