Unload/Load - no AMS

New user (1 month in). This MUST be common, but not much chat in this Discourse.

Filament A is loaded. Go to LOAD filament, and there are SIX steps, including 3, cutting and 4, pulling back filament A. But, the A1 jumps from 1, heat nozzle to 5, push new filament.

So you have to UNLOAD filament A, then LOAD filament B in 2 stages - why, then, do the steps exist in LOAD if they are never used?

Surely thousands of non AMS users see this daily. Any ideas?

Because they are used…

Each step is also the machine checking the loading process along the way.

Nope, I don’t get it. Two filaments are mentioned, current and new.

  1. Heat the Nozzle (auto)
  2. Check filament location (auto)
  3. Cut filament (auto but skipped - the machine doesn’t cut the filament like it would to unload)
  4. Pull back current filament (manual - but skipped)
  5. Push new filament into the extruder, (manual and usually followed with a user confirm action - but the machine skips to the “filament extruded, continue” dialog.) so then I am compelled to…
  6. Purge old filament.

If none of the intermediate steps are user actionable why has a coder gone to the trouble of presenting them?

It’s not a big deal, but in an otherwise astounding piece of mech eng and insane coding, why is the UI here so illogical? - rhetorical question.
