Updates and Third-Party Integration with Bambu Connect

Yes. It only kicks in when printer has new beta firmware. Then the only way to send prints from either BambuStudio or OrcaSlicer is through Bambu Connect.

Was not expecting that. Here I thought I knew how it worked, I stand corrected.

Since you managed to actually test the firmware and have firsthand knowledge, please make sure to provide your feedback to Bambu. Not sure how it might change things, but at least you can provide real testing, results, and feedback that can be used to help shape their future decisions.

I need to correct you here, just so I’m more straightforward than Bambu in my communications: I haven’t tested it personally, I was privvy to testing. The tests were done (and are being done) by a person more knowledgeable than me, having access to X1 with beta firmware and willing to mess around.

I provide my feedback and I repeat it, but now with added knowledge of Bambu Connect being required even for Bambu Slicer: Bambu Connect is unnecessary bloat and unneeded friction layer between slicer and printer. Hiring a cloud security expert(s) would fix all stated problems and create no blowback from community and didn’t need any friction layer.

Also - the fact that it’s communicated in a way that people like me or you were convinced that Bambu Connect would only be required for 3rd party slicers is deliberate tactic that in no way seems honest to me.

Well then make sure said person sends in their beta testing feedback to Bambu or you’ll poke them in the eye

What makes you think I’m here? I’m not. Please explain.

Both are based on Prusa Slicer.

It did start. It’s an Electron app, which is to say that it’s built on top of the V8 JavaScript engine (like Chrome) and expects there to be an internet connection, by default, generally, but it depends on the app. If it has web based dependencies (like scripts) it might be blank, because it’s basically a web page. So just like Chrome shows you the dinosaur when you don’t have internet, Electron shows a blank page, in some cases.

Electron apps can be configured as offline apps, but again - this is a beta. Obviously they will have to fix that for it to work in LAN-only mode, but per their blog the solution is now called Developer mode, and by the sounds of it doesn’t require Bambu Connect, so maybe they don’t intend for an offline Connect experience.

There are better features (more control) in Orca

I would think by your chosen namesake you’d be quick enough to gather this, but some of us were seeing what appeared to be a video frame with controls that had a broken CSS layout.

It now shows a gif. I’m guessing their embed code wasn’t quite right and browsers did their best to display the gif - which, by the way, is a compressed set of video frames that is commonly recognized by browsers as a video, which I’m sure you’ve seen on Facebook when someone posts a gif or meme and you have to hit the play button.

That said, it appears to have been fixed.

Such a bad idea, personally i use Bambu studio, but others deserve the right to be able to use their personal software. THAT MEANS YOU HAVE 0 RIGHT TO DO THIS. LET PEOPLE BE FREE OR YOU WILL DRIVE FUTURE CUSTOMERS AWAY !!! YOU’RE GETTING RID OF MONEY FOR THE MONEY YOU WANT IN THE FUTURE, TAKE THIS BACK FOR YOURS AND OTHERS SAKES.

Saw a post from SoftFever that seems to suggest Bambu Studio does not need Bambu Connect?

Who is thinking about upgrading to a Creality K2 after this? Does anyone have info on how good of a printer it is or how fast it is?

My thoughts exactly. I’ve been mulling over buying a second printer and did think about the K2 Plus for the larger build area. On the other hand my X1C performs really well so I was leaning towards sticking with more of the same. Reading this recent news has just made the decision to go with the Creality option much easier. If it’s good I’ll get another of those and sell my X1C before nobody wants them anymore.

What a stupid move from Bambu. It’s bad enough having to send jobs via their cloud services to use the mobile app - this new move is going too far. I basically need their permission to freely use my own device. Unbelievable, what an own goal.

Which is quite confusing, no? Since that expectation matches what appeared to be the new status quo from the announcements, but doesn’t match what at least one user is actually seeing with the firmware… :crystal_ball:

Okay, so I wait for a hack to use MY printer as I want to. Delete my models from maker world and stop buy bambu filaments. Thats fine for me. 3D printing existed bevor bambu and it will exist after bambu.
And I bet the prices for hardware parts will rise soon, and maker world will drop there rewards signifikant. So sad :frowning:

And on SuperSlicer and all are based on Slic3r!

You are Exactly correct. Bambu is not being honest about what they are doing. I own my printer Bambo does not.

Found on GitHub someone managed to connect to printer by making some ip txt on sd card - do not know nor understand the details.

If you use orca you need bambu connect plugin - also bambu studio needs it ….

Also if you go on LAN mode ….

Didi you perhaps save the link?

But that would be too obvious for us to see them pulling a HP move!
