I have tried updating my X1C from FW v1.0.3 to the latest using:
Android app which fails because the printer won’t link to my account
Bambu studio because the printer is unknown and fails to link to my account
Via the SDCard without much of a reason and the logs appear to be encoded
The WIFI is connected OK.
There is no firmware update option in this version.
I have read, though not directly, I need a binary image (presumably so the bootloader can simply load) but they are not available And all these problems relate to pre v1.0.7 being unfinished or lacking those features, thus update options are limited. That said, if that were true I find it perplexing that there arnt more posts with people tearing their hair out !
Oldest is 1.0.8 but appears not to work. Perhaps the later firmware updates a secondary bootloader which either flat out doesn’t work or is unreliable with early release. And that’s why they appear to brick the unit until ~3 power cycles has it come back to life presumably after a default image is reloaded.
Already raised a support ticket but its blocking me fixing something I need to use which is frustrating. Not only that but someone with the same connection error got told to use a different version of Bamboo Studio which doesn’t work… -1070 failed to parse login report reason Binding failed. Please check the network and try again. Its connected to the network, which is in 2.4GHz compatibility mode and I’ve also tried by my phones hotspot. Ref https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/comments/1gdmp32/bambulabs_p1s_refuses_to_bind_on_home_network/ ( i suspect this might not be working as it downloads the latest network plugin, so if the problem is related, that will be why there is no change in behaviour despite backdating the app ).
This isn’t good. I think the most frustrating aspect is the lack of documentation when this is a known issue. And the lack of debug info to understand what’s going wrong. I started having problems at 2pm and its nearly 2am !! I just want the image that’s obviously downloaded OTA in a format the bootloader I have accepts.
Update via sdcard is only possible when you are already using version 01.08.02.00 or higher. If you are on any lower version you will need to bind the printer to your account to update OTA.
I don’t generally recommend updating firmware unnecessarily, but surely there were some useful changes in the 18 releases that were skipped.
Looked through the source code for Bambu Studio and could see if fails at the authentication stage so its communicating but that process is failing at 80%. I then gave LAN only mode a go and that looked hopeful until I monitored the TCP traffic where it appears the printer doesnt respond. I tried all sorts, wired, wireless on the laptop side, ensuring there was no isolation nor blocked ports, setting the mode then restarting, resetting the firmware to factory, and made sure all comms on 2.4ghz with compatibility mode .
Thats the 3rd method and it just doesnt want to communicate
