I am looking to upload a model to MakerWorld that is also colored but I don’t own a Bambu printer as of right now. I am looking to upload multiple models here and there to hopes to get enough points for gift cards to help offset the price of purchasing a printer in the future.
My question to you is, is there anything I should look out for, or anything I should do in the slicer before uploading .3mf profiles? I want to make sure these files are ready to print as much as possible without officially owning a Bambu printer first. I can do test prints on my regular printer, but I won’t be able to test out the color aspect to it.
You can upload just the model without a print profile and still gain points. You still need photos of real prints of course. And if you know what you’re doing, you could also create the profiles for mono colored versions. But if you’re at all unsure of what you’re doing and how to ensure it’s compatible, then leave it as just the model.
Also since you can’t test multicolor prints you shouldn’t be uploading profiles that are multicolor. But other people that can color it and provide photo proof could add the multicolor profiles for you.
So I can’t upload a profile of a model already colored just because I don’t own the printer? What’s the difference of just uploading a stl vs a .3mf file already colored to help them out? They can still extract the stl file out of that if needed.
What about uploading a .obj file with the .mtl texture file?
Also how does someone add the multicolor profile to my upload?
Print profiles, just like raw models, require photo proof of their printability. Profiles include all of your slicer settings, such as layer heights, speeds, etc, even your filament settings. And since you can’t test multicolor, you have no way to know if the multicolor specific settings would result in a good print or not.
I don’t believe bambu slicer supports pre colored .obj’s, it will just import the model without colors, AFAIK. So like I said you could upload it as a raw model file, but not as a print profile since you can’t test it to provide photo proof.
Anyone can upload new print profiles to anyone’s models on makerworld. You just click on the three dots on the model page and there is an option to add a profile.
Ok, thanks for the explanation. Yes Bambu Studio does support texture import from obj files. When importing you can assign the colors, as I have been experimenting with that feature, they also support it with other file extensions as well.
