User gave 1 star reviews, then reposted my model to his own profile

Like seriously?

I’ve reported it, but like com’on, really? Like a 14 year old girl, I can’t even.

You got another report. Hopefully they can take it down soon

That’s really shameless. Let’s be honest, though: the problem is that there are no consequences except account closure. If Bambu could link it to the printer’s serial number, they would think twice.

While all the discussions about points, AI and so on are important, the fundamental problem of there being no penalties for spam remains. How all spammers would suddenly disappear if the upload were linked to the printer serial number.

At the moment, it’s like a big kindergarten where everyone thinks they can do whatever they want with no consequences and unfortunately, they’re right. Why worry about being banned when you can open a new account in just a few seconds?

The only thing that is requested is an email address. MakerWorld will get into trouble for this at some point…

What’s even more sad is I bet they won’t close the account. They’ll delete the stolen model and leave him to steal more.

It’s interesting considering some of the discussions going on here lately.

I think it would help a bit if they had some measures in place to verify accounts that upload content. I wonder what kind of push back Bambu would get though if they started implementing measures like that. :man_shrugging:

I’d like to assume the dude was just a complete noob/knob about it, but I don’t know. Like he had to have printed something to give those 1 star reviews…? But to just post it over to his own account like that?

In his photos, he didn’t even use the inbuilt filament clip, and that kind of annoys me. Like if you’re gonna repost my model, at least do it right.

Ahh, sorry my fellow forum users. I just had to open air gripe for a second

:grimacing:

Serenity now!

Oh look, I created his other model in Tinkercad in less than a minute… two stock Tinkercad assets, who whodda thought…

You can gripe any time you want Josh. These people are super frustrating.

I wouldnt go as far as linking the serial number of the printer. I can just see some poor soul buying a printer on facebook marketplace and finding out that it is locked. Plus there are many situations where accounts are getting locked for non fraud reasons.

I think the solution is having to post your original CAD model, blender file, etc. Which of course would not be public, but viewable by the system and makerworld itself. Plus this way, the system should be able to compare the CAD files with the published stls.

Even if it means verification taking a few more minutes, I think thats the way to go.

Other ideas are 2fa with a phone number, but of course thats already been argued to have a lot of workarounds. Or id verification, but its not the best to spread that information around too much, especially to a foriegn company (talking as an American).

If its the same account they will know, but there isn’t anything they can really do with that other than just ban it from the cloud, the printer will still work fine offline as remotely bricking the hardware isn’t likely to end well for them

I think a screenshot of the model open in whatever design software you’re using would be sufficient. I wouldn’t want to burden the verification process with the need to open a project file.

I mean importing something in to fusion is pretty straight forward, then with a simple edit the file looks like its mine because i have the matching CAD file, the system can only really go for a perfect match with something else in the system so any kind of remix is going to break that, the same way you can’t just do a hash check on a file to see if its a re-upload because any kind of edit will change the file hash

I come from the perspective that the verification process is a joke to begin with. Needs serious improvement. Especially if it can detect people spamming adult videos.

It would be very easy to import a file into your cad and take a screenshot. Plus that method would most likely need human intervention.

Its not the best option, I get that, but it would help alot. Also, I think that would be a good way to get rid of AI generated content and nonmodel spam.

Let me put it this way: they have to do something, whether it’s the printer’s serial number, ID verification or phone number. How to achieve this is a topic that has been discussed here for a long time.

The problem is that Bambu doesn’t verify identity at all. Really, nothing at all. A fake email address is all it takes to start uploading immediately.

While it is not necessary to ban the entire printer or the user immediately, we are currently in the following situation: Nothing happens; there are no consequences whatsoever. Often, the account is not even deactivated.

What I mean is that we haven’t even reached the stage of discussing how to do it. Years later, we’re still at the beginning with nothing being done to verify identity, even though this is standard practice for almost every website that allows uploads.

It’s not just about protecting users; it’s also about defending against lawsuits from large companies such as Nintendo and Disney. They won’t tolerate this behaviour for much longer. Companies such as Lego have kept MakerWorld under observation for quite some time.

Edit: Something else has occurred to me. Not only is age not verified, but any child who knows how to create a fake email address has immediate access to NSFW MakerWorld content. Adult content can, of course, be found just as quickly everywhere else, but it’s not just about protecting children, it’s also about protecting the creators from children (legal complain & legal system).

I should have added that the screenshot would have to include a process history of some kind alongside the model. You couldn’t just import a model and get that history. It would require a trained human to evaluate that screenshot, but it wouldn’t require any software development on MW’s end.

An automated system that compares software specific project files with model files would require development, with either reverse engineering or cooperation with the companies who make the design software.

I thought of the screenshot idea as a way for honest designers to defend themselves against false accusations. It might be too much to add that to a verification process, which will happen far more often than models getting reported.

I think I’m in agreement about tying MW accounts to the 3D printers that they own. I’m pretty sure that when I sold an A1 Mini that I was able to unbind the printer from my account, so the next user could bind it to their own.

I wouldn’t even mind having a multi tiered user system where identity verified users get a lot of perks and protections that rando who-knows-who users don’t get.

It’s not that difficult, actually; almost every console manufacturer does it. For example, if your Switch (Nintendo) hardware is banned. In this case, you must contact support.

This concept may be new to some, but many devices already operate this way. This does not make them useless, it just restricts their online access. The device must then be linked to a new account when it is sold.

Although it is not mandatory, using it does have advantages in that it makes it more difficult for fraudsters. For example, even if it is stolen, which is rather unlikely for a printer, it makes identity theft more difficult.

It doesn’t have to be implemented quite so strictly. For example, if you want to upload something, you enter a PIN on the printer and receive a confirmation certificate. This would mean that almost everyone who just wants to collect points to get a free printer would disappear from MakerWorld.

Even if a rule were established: If you don’t have a printer, you can’t use the points for printers, only for filament. If you have a registered printer, you can use your points to buy a new printer.

As previously mentioned, these are just ideas. It seems that identity verification will not be implemented after all.

Its development that could be easily outsourced. I use similar technology almost every day, which of course was expensive as hell, but it is very doable. But of course it is one little idea that would need a 500k investment minimum.

People that want to copy models would find a way around it with time anyways.

@Josh-3D They removed your model but as I predicted the account still stands with the other model he ripped straight out of Tinkercad.

yep i just had to jump through hoops to get a blatant copy of my exclusive as well as another designers exclusive combined model. I had to video my design creation timeline showing proof i created it. The loser stole almost 1500 points and 20 boosts from me all MW did was deleted the model leaving his account open. I’m hoping they deducted all his stolen points too… they should grant those stolen points to the original designers

I almost always include a screencap or gif of my designs opened in the software I used to design it. I did just have to file a copyright on one the other day and part of that was including an MP4 with video showing your creation timeline i.e. in tinkercard i just used the back button to go back to beginning then advanced it while recording… so it is a requirement when filing the complaint. uploading it in advance would consume and waste a bunch of cloud space or bandwidth
