Using a different filament to finish a print

Just running a print and I have run out of the gold PLA I was using midway through. There is orange PLA in the machine. Machine says there is no similar material to finish the print and wants me to load more. How do I force it to use the orange that’s already in there?

TIA

If it’s non Bambu filament you can just move the Orange from whatever slot it’s in to the slot that ran out and continue printing. For that to work with Bambu filament you would have to remove the RFID tag first.

You “might” be able to feed the Bambu filament into the AMS while holding the spool above the slot so the AMS doesn’t read the RFID tag. Once it’s loaded and printing you can lower the spool into the slot as I don’t think it will check the RFID again. I haven’t tried this so attempt at your own risk.

That’s what I ended up doing. Not ideal, would be nice to have a feature where you could force it via the computer controls rather than manually changing it.

I’ve ran out the green basic. Pla at 90%, I have 1kg white basic pla that’s coming this afternoon.

Would I need to remove the rfid sticker or should I be okay or do I use the method that you used, when placing the stool in the slot were there any issue?

Thanks

Here’s what I do with my P1S:

  1. Remove the old spool (if it’s there) from AMS and put the new one in slot 1 (doesn’t have to be one, but it has to be the one with the lowest number of the slots you want to use).
  2. Let the printer figure out what filament it is.
  3. Power down the printer.
  4. With the printer powered down, swap the new filament with the old one. The printer won’t re-check that when powered up.
  5. Insert the new filament(s) into slot(s) with higher number.
That’s it - the printer is now convinced that your remaining old filament is the new one.
