I have a really cool model (thank you @Knight_Studios) I am trying to print which has 5 colors. Articulated Reindeer. Since I don’t have a second AMS I thought I would print the eyes in white, then use acrylic paint to paint the small amount of the black in the eyes. I’ll admit I am a bit nervous about painting such a small area. Are there any other ideas I am not thinking about? (I tried making the eyes brown but I don’t like the look).
Permanent marker? Just print something small in white and start experimenting
Don’t worry! The colouring for my
was done using solely acrylic paints and then spray lacquer
just get a really tiny brush and you’ll be fine. People paint far smaller and more detailed stuff, but i second Rossero’s comment of experimenting - or rather - practicing your paining if you want to have that reindeer “presentable” because 1st time rarely works
That sounds good - thank you both for the suggestions. I’ll get a small brush and begin practicing!
To me, it looks like you could recolor the nose to black and just swap it with the red for the layers where the nose is being printed.
If you feel like there’s a chance of missing the right time, you can add a pause at the layer below.
How do I add this pause? It is worth a try for sure.
Once you have sliced, you can right click on the specific layer on the layer bar where you want to edit the code. Once you have entered the pause, you may need to slice again.
I used that method to print my avatar since I needed 5 “colors” but only had one AMS. I did not use the pause though as it was a long print giving me ample time. And the layer bar also indicates roughly how many days/hours/minutes into the print that layer will be reached.
Just be careful not to pause too long. I had a few cases where long prints stopped for a few hours (tangled filament), giving the printed part too much cooling/shrinking time.
I did it in my profile for another designer’s model.
Take a look at it to see how it is achieved with PAISE and faking the colour choice which YOU manually swap during print.
All instructions are in the print profile 5 colours from a 4 colours AMS.
I also did it for a few of my own models including this one, again all instructions are including.
