Vacuum bags for filament

Hi everyone,

I wanted to ask what kind of vacuum bags you use for storing filaments. I ordered these ones from Temu:

but I have pretty mixed feelings about them. Sometimes they hold the vacuum seal perfectly, but other times they lose it almost immediately. I can’t tell if it’s an issue with the bags themselves or if I’m doing something wrong.

What vacuum bags do you use to store your filament? Any recommendations?

There was an extensive discussion on this with many great suggestions.

To answer your question though, vacuum bags are largely identical in quality and many are made at the same factory. I used to use filament specific vacuum bags until I learned that you can get food vacuum bags that are better sized for 1Kg spools and are half the price. It’s apparent that once someone places 3D printing on the use-case, the price goes up.

That is a pretty common type of vacuum bag I have used (and re-used multiple times) about eight of the twenty I have, none have leaked in the past couple of years. I have different type that developed leaks, but only at places that were folded and creased multiple times.

It is important to get a complete seal. The little clips that come with them are pretty useless. I lay the bag on my countertop and slide my thumb firmly along the length of the seal. If you feel any bumps, the two halves are not aligned - start over.
