variable layer height, any way to adjust manually?
i’m 70+, with trifocals, and looking at a dark black/blue right edge, with a moderate blue line in it, is almost impossible to see. and i can’t magnify/zoom in on it very much…
using PETG, want to narrow down to 0.1 layer, but the mouse drags too far, goes to 0.08, get stringy filament…
any assistance appreciated

If you do not need the the whole variable height use over the entire model, you have another choice.
You can add one or more layer height modifiers.
These allow you to set a from and to height for each and then change almost all the settings available globally to this slice including the layer height.
You can also use them to change colours within the range.
The ranges can also overlap if required so you can mix in setting changes.

i need a SMALLER LAYER, from 10 mm to 10.6 mm (text is 0.6 mm).
I am familiar with adding height modifier, but HOW to add ONE height modifier to a plate of 20 of the same objects, so they STAY separate (in case of print fails, so i can SKIP wherever a defect happens)?
Put the modifier on one object, then copypaste the object(including modifier) 20 times.

added it to one object, made text as 0.12 instead of 0.2, does the top 8 layers, then cloned the object, and settings apply across all objects !
MUCH EASIER than variable layer, becausae i do some christmas and haloween ornaments, top layers needs somewhat smoothed, this way i can have individual objects all with same settings, and can SKIP any that become defective !

You can do so much with the layer height modifiers beyond what you currently need.
You can now explore all the other things as you feel comfortable.
layer height revisited -
see attached image, and bambu file.
i have the whistle printed at 0.2, and the layers from 10 mm to 10.6 mm as 0.12 mm, with a layer modifier. it is 99% perfect. BUT, in the girl scout trefoil, i STILL get a small divot (see arrow on top whistle, the otehr whistles have similar divot/deficit). I have 25 whistles on a plate.
I’ve tried increasing the height of the trefoil/logo another 0.12 mm, tried ironing, etc. BUT, some of those changes then mess up the lettering of the word “ROCK”, the “R” gets filled in somehow
the current settings let this print almost perfectly. what WOULD be great is to have two top surface layers to the trefoil/emblem/logo, going in different directions.
I looked at the solid infill from 10 mm upward, even decreased line width; that solid infill has 4 layers going in same directin. if i could alter that, that might help.
in ANY event, these are printing well, but i’d LIKE to eliminate that pinhole in the trefoil/logo/emblem.

Can you share a preview tab screenshot highlighting the area of concern?
here is an easier way to look at it. bambu file, with just ONE whistle in it (I just cloned this x 24)
see top layer, 62
then other image, layers 55 to 61
layers 55 to 61 print in same format every time, no alteration for solid infill. then layer 62 finishes it off. but in the whole bed of 25, there still seems to be a deficit (see the actual whistle image) at the same spot, lower 1/3 of emblem/trefoil/icon
i may be going overboard with this, but i think if i could alter the patterns for the solid infill (above 10 mm, this is the layer modifier, from 10 to 10.6), it might improve the emblem.
it might not, and most people won’t notice it, but it drives me nuts… 
anyway, as it is 99% perfect, i’m printing the beds of 25, but still would like to figure this out.
this is LOW on a critical priority list, so don’t tear hair out in trying to figure it out. this is an exercise in figuring out how to make it more perfect…

You can slap a modifier cube on the trefoil to enable ironing on it, but not on the text. Text so thin is probably going to get mangled by iron.
i tried that. i made the trefoil another 0.12 higher, and i ironed the top layer. BUT, somehow, whatever that setting did, altered the text (sounds crazy, but it did). (trefoil 0.72 high, text 0.6 high)
i tried it twice, then reverted back to my original file, and the text improved (the “R” in rock got filled in at the top)
I don’t mind experimenting, i’m making the 188 whistles for my daughter’s girl scout troop, they’re turning out well, but again, i’d like to figure out how to improve this for the last 1% of quality.
REASON, i then use this text template for other projects, etc, so it’s not just the whistles.
and again,any input from anybody is appreciated ! 
You could do a test using the wall generator switched to Arachne.

I will try that, once i print all these (8 beds at 7 hours each, so she has the whisles in time for their main meeting)

I forgot to mention a tip.
Your model changes colour at a new layer and on,y contains one colour per layer.
You can turn off the prime tower as it is unnecessary in that circumstance. Do so on the “other” panel of in the prepare tab.
It saves time and filament.
I do this for all my models.
im confused, turn off prime tower?
color changes from orange, to white, at 10 mm.
how would it do a clean color change if there is no tower upon which to change the filament?
EDIT - SO, when the filament changes color, it goes from orange to white, and really does not need the TOWER to further purge the nozzle…
SO, it might turn out that the FIRST object printed in series, gets slightly messed up at that color change layer, but the other 24 objects would probably be ok - and that first one might be ok also…
