Variable layer height for MULTIPLE IDENTICAL objects

Variable layer height - I have an object with text (three sub-objects merged), and i want to make 20 lf these, and use variable layer height on the surface.
I do NOT WANT TO MERGE all 20 of these, i would like them to be seen as 20 SINGLE objects.
REASON, if i start printing, and one of them starts to have an error in printing, i can SKIP that object, and still print the other 19.

I read that you can MERGE objects, then set variable layer height, then separate them, but that does NOT KEEP the variable layer height settings.
AND, my main object (with three sub-objects, assembled), breaks apart to three SEPARATE objects, and their Z-POSITION then changes.

You could just do one with the correct variable layer height and then clone it 19 times.

Bumping this because I have the same problem, however my objects aren’t identical so I can’t use clone.

They’re the same height and need the same variable layer height profile, but since all merge/split operations reset that profile it doesn’t work.

I don’t want to put them in the same object for the same reason OP said: now if one object fails I lose the whole bed. (OP if you’re here; you can get around the breakout-reposition problem by using Sub Merge, which creates a new object from only some parts of an object. But this still breaks the layer height profile so it doesn’t actually help.)

Is there a reason you can’t add variable layer height to each model part in turn?

Boring, but it does the job.

The only reason it would fail is if the “identical pl models are not actually identical and gain different variable layer calculations.

It’s impossible to do an identical setting twice with the VLH painting tool – try it for a sec and you’ll see why. As you say, it would have to be absolutely exactly identical to work.

You did say anything about the painting tool until after I replied.

Obviously, that wouldn’t work.

I have not tried this, but have you considered trying the following?

Export your models as STLs from Bambu Studio, do whatever you need one one, clone it and then swap the file with one of your saved STLs.

It is likely it would reset the painted information, but there is a possibility, provided it remains relatively similar in shape, the painting could persist.

It is at least worth a try,

Didn’t occur to me one would set it any other way, on my models the automatic VLH tool doesn’t do anything sensible.

That’s a terrible idea and I like the way you think. Replacing the STL does in fact flush the VLH paint, but it was worth checking.

In other news, I tried cloning parts and that also doesn’t work: clones don’t keep the VLH profile of the original.
