Vented my H2D Outside

Weekend project… maybe some ideas that will help your venting.

My office has an exterior wall, and I decided to cut through for a venting solution. Home Depot had a simple 4” soffit vent that seemed subtle and perfect. I cut through the outer wall, weatherproofed it, and then made a wall plate with a tube that sleeved inside the vent pipe to fully get all of the gasses outside, and sealed it, too. Inside I made a 90 degree fitting that sealed onto it for the hose. All from PETG-HF.

Overall it’s working great, plenty of airflow and no detectable leaks…. no smell in my office. Did some laser testing today and was really impressed with the machine, but the laser software needs some refinement.

Some people use dryer vent and mod the damper door so it stays open. If the location is exposed to heavy, wind-driven rain, you might need to add a 3d printed rain shield to prevent water from getting into the duct just in case.

Overall, well done. :+1:

Pretty Impressive. It’s great when you don’t have to worry about landlords.
If you use the laser alot and it generates smoke you could print a dragon or gargoyle head to stick on the outside.

If you use the laser alot and it generates smoke you could regardless of usage print a dragon or gargoyle head to stick on the outside and add LED lights so it glows at night.

I guess that’s one of the few advantages of having paper walls :joy: Here in Europe it would take some more effort to create such a hole lol

Simtom, I gave a laser and a 3d printer to one of the wee ones in the village I grew up in, and yeah, it took some finagling to figure out a way to vent to the outside, turns out the attick was well sealed, but all with just wood. All the houses where I come from are stone for the most part…

I have a standard off the shelf baffle from home depot, it was prone to sticking open so I put on stronger springs, and a slide mech with a latch that I can lock it down with.

Now the dragon… I could set it with a simple motion sensor, whenever smoke passes… yeah, I will post the circuit when done…

what? Can’t you just poke it out between the thatching on the roof, or would that be a fire hazard.

But thatched roofs are cosidered Environmentally friendly and sustainable. Some people were just ahead of their times.

Edit: apologies to OP. Wasn’t trying to side rail what you posted. Looks like you had to go through Stucco?

Well, in Germany we are using concrete for our walls mostly. Our homes are often save like bunkers, our door-locks are professional and most of the doors will break your foot when you try to break it open with it.

Hah, I was enjoying where it went. Yep, it’s an older Florida house, pretty thick stucco and lathe over 3/4" plywood wall there. I cut as far as I could inside before I was afraid of chipping the stucco, and then went out side to finish… fully ground all the teeth off the hole saw and had to just burn my way the rest of the way through the wood.

Uhhgggg I hate dealing with stucco.

Yes, I had an air conditioning system installed two years ago and at the same time had a wall opening made for the laser. 30cm wall with bricks, they had to go and get a longer drill

But if you have a good extraction and filtration system, it’s worth a lot if you do more with stuff like that.
