Hello - Just a word of caution if using Bambu Studio with Bambu and non-Bambu printers. I have been using Studio for both my printers (A1 Mini with AMS & Elegoo Neptune 4 Plus). I enjoyed being able to use Studio for both and never had an issue until Version 2.0.2.57 was released on Flathub. After install and start I received an error (Failed loading configuration file - BBL/process/fdm_process_single_common.json).
After numerous attempts to fix the issue which included Cleaning the “system firstly” I found the new version, and previous versions, would crash after freezing on the Home page. Failures/program crashes included tests with various versions as an AppImage.
To remedy the issue I removed all traces of Bambu Studio on my system including hidden directories and files. I was then able to run prior versions using AppImage and the new version via Flathub but DID NOT select my Elegoo printer during setup. For now I will use Studio for my A1 Mini and OrcaSlicer for my Elegoo. Note that Orca continues to work with both printers and may stay with this software until a fix can be identified for Studio.
Note - I have the prior version of Studio working on my Windows11 and Macbook for both printers and doubt I will update to the new version should this same issue occur on my other computers.
Welcome to the community, and thanks for the PSA. Sadly, with the 2.0 release, Bambu Lab has made it clear that their focus is now solely on H2D stability, while everything else is treated with the “Chabuduo” (差不多) mindset—just good enough, no matter the consequences. This is becoming the norm across their design, manufacturing, and especially their software decisions.
Linux users, in particular, are left in the dark. We’ve seen repeated support threads in this forum highlighting just how little Bambu cares about providing proper support for anything outside their narrow priorities.
Their broader direction reeks of disregard for the community that helped launch them. Early adopters and enthusiasts are being cast aside as Bambu chases bigger profit margins. They like to compare themselves to Apple—but whether they end up as Apple or as forgotten as Palm Treo, Blackberry, or Nokia is still up in the air.
At the end of the day, consumers walk. I know I will. The first Bambu printer I bought two years ago will also be my last. I’d much rather support a company that ships a slightly slower Benchy but values user experience over Bambu’s increasingly rigid, top-down “do it our way or not at all” approach.
Thanks for the comments and would agree the focus is on Bambu’s own printers. I may test Studio again after another release or two. Appreciate the feedback.
